It’s like Project Runway but in Real Life

October 10, 2010

On Saturday, Elaine and I went to Downtown LA for a fashion/art/charity event.

Five local designers, a quick tour of the art gallery, and the proceeds going towards children’s cancer research…how can you say no?

I pulled out my nude sheath and cheery Kate Spade heels to wear to the event.

Outfit Details: BCBG sheath- XXS, Madewell necklace, Kate Spade Genny heels

Since I’ve never been to these kinds of events, I had no idea what to expect. Everyone else was wearing a lot of black and sky high heels. Undeterred, we made our way to the couches where we scored front row seats. My point and shoot couldn’t keep up with all the outfits, so I picked a couple of photos that peaked my interest.

Virginia Ying started out the show with a bang. The flirty, feminine silhouettes in draped fabric kept the looks simple and chic.

Black Moth presented a collection filled with vintage inspired pieces and gothic statement jewelry.

Personally, this was my favorite segment because the clothes looked so cheery and effortless. How can you go wrong with fur, sheer, mint green, and scalloped details?

For the finale, Joshua Bryon closed out the show with great architectural elements and a unique combination of materials. The fluidity and movement of the skirts was quite amazing.

Genaro Designs and Roshena Chadha also presented their collections but my photos didn’t turn out so great. Roshena designed embellished, graphic sportswear while Genaro Designs sent out innovative neckwear.

It was a fun experience and Elaine and I took a couple of photos at the end of the night. Next time, we have to take a photo together! Check out Elaine’s blog for information about what she was wearing.

Yeah! Fashion journalist!!!!

I like how you used a sheet as your outfit picture backdrop! I always wanted to try but I cut up the only other big white sheet we had..

LOL. I heard that a sheet would look better, but I’m still undecided. Maybe I should’ve ironed it before taking the photo. I just picked up a canvas dropcloth from Home Depot for $30. =P

Love the outfit, you look so polished and those shoes are adorable!

How are you hanging the dropcloth up by the way? I’ve briefly toyed with the idea, but it’s not as easy as you’d think!

I just used thumbtacks to hang the dropcloth.

Oh, your outfit is just super sweet and classic! I love the pop of color that your heels add!

Virginia Yang’s collection is definitely my fave of the ones you listed. Ugh, but I doubt that it’ll fit little ones like us.

It’s true that it’s hard to find clothes for petites, but there has to be some local designers that made things that run a little smaller than average. Just have to shuffle them out in to the open! =)

You look very stylish and like an old hat for a fancy fashion event! Those cheery Kate Spades are much more fun than plain black heels

Thanks! I never quite know what to wear to fashion events so I just wear what I usually wear with more drama.

I love going to see local designers! My college used to host a big event every year and I love seeing fresh talent. Like all the commenters are saying, the red heels stole the show! They are so adorable! =0D

Thanks for the correction (I fixed it) I was wondering why her name wasn’t matching the invitations. =)
