Have you ever had an idea that woke you up in the middle of the night?
I was almost asleep when this outfit popped into my head. I had to get up and try it on and then, I went back to bed. I guess my subconscious likes to create new outfits when I’m not thinking about it. That’s better for me since I don’t have to spend more time trying to put different clothing combinations together.

When I look at the outfit, it has the western influence with the gingham and the cowboy-inspired boots. But at the same time, it’s bohemian with the over-sized pendant and the patterned trapeze dress. It’s funky and it’s interesting. Not a costume, but not trying too hard either.
Since I’m a fan of pattern-mixing, this is a great combination. The subtle print on the dress contrasts nicely with the more vibrant gingham. The colors of the outfit are all fairly neutral and no pop of color is needed to make this look stand out since the prints are the main focus. Additionally, the structured blazer provides some shape to the loose trapeze dress and breaks up the body proportions so that I don’t lose definition at the waist.

In case you were wondering, it is still sunny and warm in California…it was almost 90 degrees the other day!
The Santa Ana winds are picking up, so we’re getting that super warm, muggy wind that never ceases to blow my mind. Talk about a really late Indian summer….a breeze should cool you down, not warm you up right?

What an unique outfit, I would’ve never think to combine these items together. But I love it on you! I am terrible at mixing prints so it’s always refreshing to see new combination.
I am envious of your weather though…it’s been so cold lately here on the East Coast. I have been dealing with 30 degree weather and it is making me nostalgic for warm weather.
very stylish outfit!! love the mix of patterns and colors!
Wow you are so great at pattern mixing. LOL I can’t believe outfits just come to you in your sleep and you get up to try them out! That is dedication!
this is super cute! i wanted that jacket but they ran out of my size:(
@Elle: I’m trying to mix patterns more so I get more use out of my clothing. I’m enjoying the weather, but I do wish our seasons were more dynamic.
@Kileen: Thanks! The patterns are my favorite part! =)
@Curls and Pearls: LOL. I had to get up because I kept thinking about it and it was preventing me from falling asleep. I learned that if I don’t satisfy my curiosity…it’ll take me longer to fall asleep and I’d be even more tired the next day.
@Really Petite: In the smaller sizes, that jacket seemed to fly off the shelves! =P
Very lovely. I’m inhibited when it comes to mixing prints, but you do it with such finesse! That pendant is also very fetching.
I wish outfit ideas would come to me in my sleep! Usually I have to force myself to be original or else I’d just throw on the first thing within reach everyday haha. I really like how you mixed the patterns here, it’s so unique and I actually own a pair of black Steve Madden boots that look almost exactly like yours!
I’ve always been a little hesitant about mixing prints. But you have inspired me to try! Only I hope I don’t wake up in the middle of the night with the perfect outfit. I need my beauty sleep =P Your brown boots look great with this outfit, I can see why you’ve been wearing them so much lately!
Omg, I totally think of outfits at the end of the day too! I do it to unwind though, it helps me sleep at night thinking of pretty things. Unlike you though, I don’t try it on. LOL I’m too lazy. I hate it when sometimes I have an image in my mind and I wear it and it doesn’t look like what I was thinking of.
I adore your look though! The prints are so different yet they meld together very nicely.
@Em: Thanks! I’m still working on getting better at mixing prints.
@MizzJ: LOL. Most days, I just reach for whatever catches my fancy, but every once in a while I pulll out the “pre-planned” looks.
@Cee: Definitely try mixing prints, it adds more interest to an outfit! =)
@Banhannas: That’s awesome that you think of outfits at the end of the day. But I have had the same thing happen when what I think my head doesn’t look as nice in real life.
I love this outfit! And I tend to put outfits together in my head while lying in bed too!….Although, I must confess that I’ve never actually gotten out of bed to try them on! Lol I do jot them down sometimes though (you never know what details you might forget once you wake up the next morning). Sunny and warm huh? I’m so jealous right now it’s not even funny
Your blazer is really cute, and I love the pendant!

Hey I see the Jacket of pettie community! The boots polish the whole outfit. VEry cute and stylish.
@Callandra: Writing things down is a good idea, I’ve never done that…might be something I need to try.
@TLDP: Thanks! The pendant is one of my faves!
@MixandMatch: The jacket is super popular, but I love styling it in different ways! =)
Love the flowy dress!
I love the pattern mixing!
I adore this look – so polished but interesting too. You look great.
Lol… I can’t say thinking of outfits has ever gotten me out of bed before… but then again, not even my alarm can get me out of bed on most days
I like the combination of dress and boots, and I wouldn’t have thought to pair it with that jacket but it adds that unexpected touch!
I love your outfit so much! The fish necklace is adorable and the combo of gingham and floral is unexpected but totally works.
P.S. Ugh…those Santa Ana winds.
@Liz: I love flowy dresses.
@Erica: Pattern mixing is one of my newest ways to style clothes! =)
@Emma: Thanks! =)
@PetiteXXS: I like unexpected details since it makes people look twice at an outfit. =)
@Shannon: Thanks, the pattens go oddly enough and it’s a bit quirky, but I like it. Santa Ana winds are no fun!
Love the print mixing! Beautiful backdrop too!
