Walking on Sunshine

November 12, 2010

This week, I challenged myself to wear skirts or dresses for every outfit.

It was tough not reaching for my trusty pants but I made a conscious effort to look presentable. Skirts stand out no matter what and I wanted to stay stylish and neat.

As for daily photos, I’m not there yet. Though I’ve been scouting for some great locations where I can avoid unfriendly stares and I can pose ridiculously in peace. I’m sure all those young mothers and retired seniors got a laugh when I was taking pictures, but I don’t appreciate the embarrassment. More isolated places give me the courage to put it all out there and find those amazing poses that models create all the time.

Outfit Details: Banana Republic wrap shirt – XS, J.Crew skirt – 0P, Payless wedges

Outfit Details: Forever 21 trench – S (similar here), GapKids tee – L, Paul et Duffier wool skirt – 2 (similar here), Valentino pumps

Outfit Details: Urban Outfitters long cardigan – XS, Asos pussybow blouse (find it here) – UK6, LOFT skirt – 00P, J.Crew herringbone tights (similar here), Aldo pumps

What do you think about skirt week? Did I pull it off or did I fall flat?

Great outfits! I wish I could wear a skirt or dress everyday, but the weather here is so unpredictable!

Great outfit, as a skirt lover I love every single outfit. How do you like the ASOS blouse in that last outfit? I am looking for something similar so would appreciate an opinion from someone who owns it. :)

nice job wearing skirts everyday this week! i’m especially a fan of your last outfit — love the white bow-tie blouse and high-waisted skirt.

and good luck finding a good photo spot! key is just to ignore people’s looks and just do your own thang. :)

My favorite outfit was the last one with the long cardigan and bow front blouse. I have been trying to put together a similar outfit but I am having trouble finding the right long cardigan. You definitely pulled it off.

Great looks, you really are rocking those skirts! The location of the last picture is so pretty — it looks pretty isolated too?

I love all of these outfits! The first one looks really summery though, is it still that warm there??! (haha I just read Lydia’s message above mine and apparantly, we both “love all of these outfits!”) hee

@The Little Dust Princess: I think the weather here is unpredictable too, but it’s manageable with a heavy coat.

@Elle: I like the blouse, I didn’t buy the petite version, so it’s a little long and slightly sheer. The material is 100% polyester and I have to undo the back buttons to put it on, but I love the look of it that it’s worth it for me.

@Kileen: Thanks! It’s taking me a while to find locations since lighting it such a huge variable for me. I’m not that good with light settings yet, so it’s all trial and error.

@Kerry: I’ve been loving the last outfit since it’s kind of retro, but still modern. I recently picked up the blouse so I’m still in the honeymoon phase with it.

@Lydia: Thanks! Those wedges have lasted me a long time and they’re quite an unexpected pair from Payless.

@Cee: The last photo location is quite isolated. I just happened to discover it when I made a wrong turn to another place I wanted to go. It just looked so picturesque, I had to try to capture the moment.

@Callandra: The weather has been fluctuating lately, it’s chilly in the mornings, but the afternoon is still warm. So I can get away with wearing short sleeves for a while longer. =)

Are you kidding?!?! You absolutely pulled off skirt week! I think my favorite is the third picture with the Asos blouse and Loft skirt. Stunning!
I get self conscious when taking my photos and I only shoot around my house. My neighbors are always outside and don’t pretend to ignore me. Luckily I have a naturally surly expression so they never really say anything. :)

@Sherry: Thanks! I hoped that skirt week would turn out nice.

@Melanie: LOL. I don’t have too many nosy neighbors but I do have nosy bystanders. Some have asked me about why I was taking photos and others have questioned me about my tripod and camera. But I guess it’s all part of being a blogger. =P

@Michelle: Thanks! I really like the last one too, especially since it’s just warm enough for those chilly mornings.

I also think you pulled off skirt week quiet well. I love the color palette of first outfit is gorgeous! I love the blue contrasting with the brown. It’s such an adorable outfit.

I sound obsessive. LOL

Um, yeah, you did! The last one is my favorite. I love that shirt and skirt combo! I hate my legs (short, pale, stocky…) so I don’t usually wear skirts but you’re making me think twice about trying…

Your dresses and skirts all look terrific on you and the photos turned out gorgeous!
Also, that bow blouse is to die for…

That J.crew skirt in the first photo is such a beautiful color! I bet you’ll get a lot of wear from it this fall!

@Gracie: Not obsessive at all. I love mixing different colors and patterns. Especially when it’s a bit unexpected! =)

@Simple Subtle Style: I have pretty pale legs too and I try to tan them but they don’t wanna change color. So I just work with what I got and as long as I look nice, who cares if my legs are ghostly white?

@Shannon: Thanks! The bow blouse is my newest obsession!

@Liz: Thanks! I’ve been trying to wear it more often since it’s been sitting in my closet since summer.

Wow you found all these great places to take pics in LA? Lol… I went up to the roof of my building the other to scout, and the background was not so pretty with lots of electrical lines and tons of smog so that was a fail. You look so tall in the last outfit! The cardigan looks majorly cozy.

i looooooove that third outfit!!

i know what you mean about having to scout isolated locations for photos. i’m starting to run into the same problem and i feel like i need to have my own little corner to take silly jumping photos without anyone judging me. :P hehe

@PetiteXXS: There are plenty of places for photos in LA, just need to find the right angles.

@Katrina: Thanks! The last look is my fave out of the three too.

@Angie: LOL. I agree, I just need to keep it up.

@Jen: Thanks! =) I picked the fun skirts this round to show off.
