Going Over the Knees

November 23, 2010

I’m bringing out the thermals, beanies, and over the knee socks.

Over the weekend when I was walking around, I noticed that my socks don’t stay up and they became slouchy knee highs at the end of the day. I was complaining to S. about it and he told me a secret. Well, it’s not so secret in Japan since schoolgirls use fabric tape, sock glue, or elastic adhesive bands to keep their socks from falling down. That’s how the loose socks thing worked when it was popular.

I need to learn more of these secrets!

Next time, I’ll try double stick tape and see how it goes…sock glue seems  a bit extreme and I don’t think I’ll be able to find those elastic adhesive bands here.

Outfit Details: Esprit blazer – XS, American Eagle hooded thermal – XS, DIY skirt, Fred Flare hat, Gap socks, Steve Madden Tuxxedo oxfords, Colehaan satchel

Photo Location: LACMA “Urban Light” Installation

Wow, I’ve never had otk socks fall down on me before! It must be such a hassle having to pull them up all the time. Have you tried shrinking them first or maybe even getting a smaller size? (though I know most socks come in o/s haha) Love the beret you’re wearing..so cute :D

Lol, you are so incredibly cute, love your outfit.

I didn’t know that it was the norm to use adhesives to glue socks to one’s legs…that’s why my knee high socks don’t seem to stay up. It seems a little…extreme, to me. I prefer tights anyway when it’s cold. :)

You look so cute! And I love the facial expressions :) Did you use anything with your socks in these pictures? They look to have elastic on top, so I would guess that helps it stay up? Btw, I love the Cole Haan bag!

So cute!!! I love that last picture the most =] I really like the hoodie+blazer combo, too.
And mine totally fell down too…perhaps I should try to get some of this sock glue. Hmm.

I love your outfit! I’ve never had OTK socks fall on me before…it must be the elastics!

@The Little Dust Princess: The socks fit pretty well, but I think the elastic isn’t very strong. So they just slip down super easy.

@Elle: I like tights too, but I love the option of OTK socks.

@Kileen: Thanks! I love wearing hats so I’m making the most of mine this season!

@Angie: It’s very schoolgirl indeed and yet, when I had a uniform, I never looked like this. LOL.

@MizzJ: I’m bringing back the preppy days. =)

@Cee: I didn’t use anything for the photos, I just kept pulling them up when they were falling down. The elastic on it wasn’t very useful but I have other options to keep them up now.

@Michelle: Oxfords add some playfulness and that school-girl aura to the outfit. =)

@Shannon: I love hoodie + blazer look but I think it’s slowly going out of style. But I’ll wear it anyway =P

@Natalie: I think my socks are more like long trouser socks than other types of OTK socks so the elastic isn’t very strong. On the flip side, I don’t get that “muffin top”
look that’s caused when the elastic is too tight. =)

You are the cutest!! Your hair looks really good with the hat. I was just out shopping this past weekend and tried on so many of these knit hats hoping to find one that didn’t look weird on me! Sadly, I don’t think I can pull off this look half as well as you can!

P.S. I have been itching to go take pictures of those LACMA lightposts forever now!

Great outfit and good tip on how to keep your socks up! I had no idea about all the different methods that were out there. I really love how you combine different elements for a chic look with a touch of whimsy :)

@Mandi: Thanks! I kept doing all these awkward serious faces and S. kept telling me to switch it up, so I came up with some random ones. =)

@Jen: I love casual outfits and I wanted it to be a little different, so it’s a bit quirkier than what I usually wear, but it works great!

@MichLA: The LACMA lightposts are amazing, you should definitely check it out! It’s usually not too busy, but in the outtakes, half-blurry kids were popping out everywhere!

@PetiteXXS: OTK socks are my new obsession, I’m still figuring out other outfits to wear with them before it gets too cold.

@JIll (theladyboard): Thanks! I’m hoping the tape works or I might have to scour to find that sock glue! =P

@SewPetiteGal: Most days I pick out a few key items I really want to wear and then add in different textures, colors, and styles to find something fun and interesting. It doesn’t always work out, but I like this one. =)

@Callandra: Thanks! You should try it out, I’m sure you’ll look suprr chic! =)
