Petite Fashion Challenge #4: Holiday Party

December 2, 2010

The Challenge:

Create a holiday party look using festive colours and/or holiday pieces without looking like a greeting card.  This could be your opportunity to dust off that reindeer sweater you might have collecting dust in the back of your closet and turn it into something chic.

I like to keep things simple when it comes to holiday parties so I pulled out this LBD that I got from The Row sample sale. It’s kind of hard to see the lace detail, but it’s a beautiful dress. A pop of red, a fur scarf, and some shiny accessories makes it more festive.

Since the dress is the main focal point, I kept everything else smaller and minimal. It’s classic, understated, and elegant. I need more of these looks in my closet! =)

Outfit Details: The Row dress- 0, The Limited fur scarf, H&M earrings, Shiekh Laura pumps

Holy crap you look like you walked out of a 40s movie! I love everything you are wearing, you look so elegant! The dress from the Row is so gorgeous (can I ask how much you paid for it at the sample sale?!)

Wow, you got it girl! I love every detail of this whole outfit and makeup, even the green nail polish! What brand and color lipstick are you wearing? I’ve been searching for a red lip color like that! For some reason, red lipsticks I’ve tried usually look pink on me. I want to wear everything you are wearing! haha

You look utterly elegant! I didn’t notice the green nail polish until I saw Olyvia’s comment about it, really nice work on the details! The red lipstick is definitely my favorite!

I came here ’cause I saw PAG’s comment. Oh no! Something went wrong with the scheduling?

You look really elegant with the fur, earrings, LBD, and lipstick. : )

You and Kileen were thinking as one…hollywood glamour! Love the jewels, fur, and platforms accenting this pretty dress.

CynthiaC December 2, 2010 at 6:40 pm

I agree with many of the earlier posters – totally old Hollywood. I like the wrap the most. You’re totally ready for your close-up.

Vicky December 2, 2010 at 6:40 pm

Love everything about this outfit. You nailed it.

Erin December 2, 2010 at 6:47 pm

Oooooo I love this!! The red lip is killer and the earrings are perfect with your hair! Perfect example of how the details make the outfit!

Natalie December 2, 2010 at 7:06 pm

Oh I love your outfit! I agree w/ Erin-the red lip is perfect with the earrings!

You look very elegant in your little black dress. It’s simple but yet very chic and stylish. I don’t see you wear red lipstick very often. This is definitely a new look for you and I love it

I think this is the chicest outfit yet. Everything is perfect, down to your red lips! You found some major scores at that Row sample sale…jealous!!!

@Basic Cravings: Thanks! I’ve been waiting to wear this dress since I got it.

@Elle: The dress cost me $200. It’s still really expensive for me, but for The Row, that’s cheap. It fits really well, it’s silk, and it’s well-constructed, so it’s worth the money. Plus, that just means I need to wear it more often! =)

@Angie: Thanks! I think I would usually go over the top, but I wanted to hold back and let the dress speak for itself. I can be minimalist…sort of. =P

@Olyvia: LOL. The lipstick is Duwop in Private Red, it’s supposed to be color-adjusting to be your “perfect” shade of red. I’m not sure if that’s true, but I do love the color.

@Banhannas: Actually, I didn’t plan the outfit with the green polish, it just happened to work out that way. I saw this pretty color at F21 and I tested it out this week…so I didn’t even think to change it when I took photos for this challenge. But it does work quite nice now that you and Olyvia mention it.

@The Little Dust Princess: The scheduling went a little off, but it’s alright because it’s still a great outfit! =)

@TinyinTX: Thanks! I think the lipstick made a difference to this look.

@SewPetiteGal: Thanks! I don’t usually wear red lips nor fur, but this both they both just clicked.

@Curls and Pearls: Thanks! I’m glad this outfit worked out because I didn’t have a backup plan.

@PetiteAsianGirl: I was definitely thinking old school glamor, and I see that I wasn’t the only one. =)

@CynthiaC: Thanks! I’ve been holding out for the right fur scarf/collar and this one just popped out at me.

@Vicky: Thanks so much! =)

Thanks so much for your compliments! I’m really loving this outfit too since it’s a different side of what I wear. =)

@Erin: Thanks! Originally I wanted to add a bold necklace (like I always do) but it wasn’t working, so I added earrings instead. It definitely looks better and with LBDs, I think it’s always the styling that makes it unique.

@Natalie: Thanks! I’m glad the outfit is a hit! =)

@PetiteLittleGirl: Thanks! I don’t wear red very often at all since I think it’s so bold. My friends are so “au natural” that even when I wear blush, they’re harping me about it. LOL. But I’ll try to wear it more.

@AlterationsNeeded: Thanks! It’s crazy how “reasonable” the prices were for The Row sample sale. I checked out the prices for the E&J sample sale and it was even higher. I didn’t think that E&J items were worth more than The Row.

@Cher: Thanks!

@Kileen: Thanks! I’m a lazy lipstick chooser, so Duwop’s color-correcting quality works for me. =)
