Deep Blue (Market)

December 6, 2010

After the latest Petite Fashion Challenge hosted by Curls and Pearls, I have been thinking a lot about what to wear for the holidays.

Velvet is one of many winter fabrics that add warmth, texture and dimension to an outfit. When utilized as a blazer, it provides a luxurious look that a regular suit blazer does not give. Since velvet is going to be big this holiday season, I picked out my velvet blazer from the back of the closet.

In a sea of dreary neutrals, this bold blue cheerily stands out.

I kept the rest of the outfit simple since the pop of color is the main focal point. It’s a “I’m not trying too hard but I look festive” kind of ensemble. Just take a simple pantsuit and switch out the normal blazer for this velvet one. Add some edgy booties instead of pumps for some added drama and…Voilá!

Instantly fabulous!

Last year, I wrote a post about this blazer and since then, I’ve only worn it a couple times. And because I’m moving, I need to pare down my possessions so I don’t have too much stuff to take to SF.

As much as I love this blazer, I don’t wear it enough to justify keeping it, so I’m selling it in my shop. I hope one of my amazing readers will purchase it and give it a new home!

Outfit Details: J.Crew Ecolé blazer – 0P (I’m selling it here), The Row Norwood Shirt – XS, Theory Ibbey Pant – 00, Loehmann’s leather gloves, Mare booties

Super cute blazer, I wasn’t even aware you had a blog shop. I don’t know if I can pull this jacket off as well as you do…I have tons to learn about difficult pieces like styling cobalt blue. I really like how you styled it!

Very cute outfit…I would totally wear this. My closet is absent of blazers of any kind, and this is exactly what I need.

I think velvet is so hard to pull off. I haven’t dared and I don’t know if I ever will… but your photos give me hope! I love how you kept everything else simple and neutral. The blue coat really is the statement piece.

@Elle: I’m still slowing adding things to my shop, so I didn’t really announce it. I think the blazer isn’t a hard piece to wear, but it’s definitely a bold choice.

@Kileen: Thanks! I’ve been trying to pick up some new poses since I don’t want to always do the same things over and over again.

@Good Girl Gone Blog: Thanks! I’ve been trying to figure out how to wear my gloves out without making it look too obvious.

@The Little Dust Princess: I like bright colors and jewel tones…it just works for me. But try to stick me in earth tones or pastels and I wash out like nobody’s business.

@Really Petite: Thanks! It’s nice that the booties are a darker shade of blue to compliment the blazer’s bright hue! =)

@SewPetiteGal: Thanks! I love gloves but I never get enough wear out of them, so I figured I could at least wear them with an outfit for more interest!

@Kerry: I don’t blazers that often either, but when I do, I want it to look great! Plus this one is like a special-occasion blazer!

@Cee: A lot of items in velvet aren’t made in flattering ways, but velvet itself is fantastic! I’m sure you can pull it off, it just takes some experimenting.

@Michelle: Thanks! As much as I love this jacket, I’m not doing it justice by having it sit in my closet for most of its life…so I’m glad someone else has picked it up! =)

This blue color really pops! I think the way you styled it is perfect. I also like the way you styled it last year too. Something about the blue and black combination really works! Your blazers always look well-fitted. I know, I’m still trying to figure out the right length of blazers on me. haha

@Jill: Thanks! I didn’t even think equestrian until you mentioned it! =)

@MizzJ: Aww…there’s always another one available if you want a velvet blazer!

@Olyvia: Thanks! I don’t have many blazers, but I tend to go for ones that hit where my hip meets my leg. But those are more like boyfriend styles. Shorter ones that hit the mid-hip are probably the classic length for blazers since it keeps the right proportion between torso and leg. =)

@Emma at Daily Clothes Fix: Thanks! Those are the two things that drew me to the blazer in the first place! =)

@Angie: Thanks!

@Stephanie: Thanks! They are one of my faves! =)

I love the blue on you (which means you’ll need to showcase more blue since you’re selling this blazer) and the boots!
