Part of My World

December 18, 2010

I was tagged twice so it’s my turn to spit out my seven secrets.  You can thank Simple Subtle Style and Jen of Pretty in PDX. I wrote a personal post last month, but here I am again talking about my life.

These seven facts are kind of embarrassing but the fun part, right?

-

  1. I like to sing super loud when I’m alone in the car but I refuse to sing in public. I’m an alto, so I can sing the boy songs easier than I can sing along with the girls.
  2. I love books. I love the touch, feel, and smell of the printed word. My favorite place growing up was the library since it was a cheap and entertaining pastime. It wasn’t until I moved to LA that I stopped going to the library since I have to pay for parking! Books are free, but parking is expensive.
  3. When I was young, my mom wanted to make me into a child model/actor. I even auditioned for a Goldfish commercial. Needless to say, I was not successful. But that’s probably when I started learning how to pose and be more comfortable around a camera. (Even when I was in that dorky awkward stage.)

  4. From kindergarten until 5th grade, I wore the same size uniform. (A tall tale perhaps, but it’s how I remember it) I didn’t have a growth spurt until I was in 6th grade, but it wasn’t enough to make me super tall.
  5. In college, I experimented with my hair a lot. The color changed every three months, but every year, I changed hairstyles. Throughout all this experimentation, my hair was still healthy with no split ends! Nowadays, I’m low maintenance with my natural hair color and a trim every 6 months or so.

  6. I started to care more about clothes and fashion halfway through college. Before that, I wore a uniform to school and my mom or my younger sister picked out my outfits. They’re trendier than me so I looked pretty good for not having a say in my clothing choices.
  7. I used to eat a lot and not just for my size. When I was visiting my friends in Boston, we went to Eagle’s Deli and we completed a food challenge there…finishing a 1 pound burger and 1 pound of fries. It doesn’t look like much, but boy does it fill you up! There’s tangible evidence and if you search hard enough, you can find our photo on the back wall of the establishment. (The food was decent, but I didn’t really have the opportunity to enjoy it.)

So now that you know a bit more about me, I’m passing it along:

LOL, It was quite entertaining when I look back because I don’t think I could do that challenge again! =)

Love all the pics down memory lane. You were such a cute baby and hardly went through the awkward teenage years *jealous* Even to this day I love reading. Can’t see myself paying for books when there’s perfectly good books at the library too. Hopefully SF doesn’t charge for parking and you can get back to reading :)

Aww loved getting to know you a bit more. I grew up in the library too, but barely ever have the time to read for pleasure now. I also enjoyed the photos you shared with us! You’ve changed quite a lot, but for the better :D

@Cee: Thanks! I was quite awkward during my teen years, I didn’t have many photos because I hated how I looked. But now I wish I had more. Anyways, I’m definitely going to be hitting up the library back up north so I can get back to reading! =)

@Michelle: Thanks! Most of my old photos are trapped in my parent’s family albums and I had to sneak them out without my mom noticing. She loves collecting pictures.

@Angie: Thanks! I loved my long hair, but it got so annoying that I almost always had it up. So I figured, I might as well go short so I don’t have to tie it up all the time!

@The Little Dust Princess: Thanks! I don’t think I’ve changed too much, but I do notice that I’m more “polished” now…which is good cuz I was kind of scrappy when I was younger. =)

Of all your hairstyles posted, I like you in the short-hairstyle of recent :) aw man, another tag! I’ve been avoiding the 7 confessions! I’m not ready for it for my blog, hehe But I do like reading everyone else’s confessions. A small confession from me for you is that I’m also late to fashion. I think it has something to do with money. I grew up with hand-me-downs and never got to actually go to a shopping mall to buy my own clothes until I was in college (when I also starting driving…I got my driver’s license late..at 19 yrs old.) Now that I’m working and can afford to buy things, I’ve been a lot more interested in fashion, especially in what makes me look good. Thus I’m so grateful for this petite blogging community I found. It beats looking at magazines for inspiration, where I’m always like: “no way, can a normal person pull that off, especially with short legs like me.” :)

I can totally understand, I work with a budget and my sister got a lot of hand me downs. The petite blogging has been a great help to me as well.

Hahahahahaa the caption on the Polaroid is priceless…I have to check that place out when I go back to Boston.
I auditioned for a Chinese channel Disneyland commercial when I was 5…I didn’t get it, but my dad went with me, they asked him if he wanted to try out, so he did and wound up getting it. I’m still sort of jealous.

I love all of your pictures! Those burgers look huge, I’m surprised you could finish it! The library is still one of my favorite places to go ;)

Oh my goodness – what a cute little girl! I really like your shoulder length, slightly flipped out hair in the 2nd to last photo.

Oh and I’m a little embarrassed to admit this, but we put our son in a Pampers photo shoot. He HATED it and we felt horrible about it. Suffice it to say, he will not be a child model.

Really enjoyed looking through all your pics! I had those dorky round glasses too growing up, and I spy a posey studio group pic that were so popular with Asian high school kids back then (do they still do those now I wonder).

Like your #1, I’m almost always singing in the car (I probably look weird to other cars, but I pretend no one can see/hear me when I’m in my car lol), but I NEVER sing in public. I’m not a very good singer, and I can tell when I’m off-key so it makes me self-conscious. I also spent a significant amount of time in the library growing up, but have never been to an LA library either.

@Shannon: Definitely check out Eagle’s Deli if you’re in for a challenge. As for the commercial, that’s unexpected…I bet your dad had fun! =)

@Callandra: The burger wasn’t that bad to get down, but the fries were tough towards the end.

@SewPetiteGal: I haven’t found a hairstyle I really love but I’m liking the shorter cuts. I think all parents want their kids to succeed in some way and when I was auditioning, I had no idea what I was doing.

@ReallyPetite: Thanks for the compliment!

@PetiteXXS: Oh yes, they still do those studio photos as cheesy as they are, they’re memories. We should take a little trip to the LA Library. I hear it’s big.

@Angeline: That food story was the only one that was “officially” documented and my friends like to elaborate on the other stories.

wow, i’m so impressed that you were able to finish a 1 lb burger and fries!! and how cool that you picture is now on the wall!!

i like how your hair has changed over the years. not many people can rock the short hair, but it really suits you!

Haha I too love singing in the car, and also had a very awkward teen phase! You were just adorbs when you were little – I can see why your mom wanted you to act!

@Kileen: My friends and I worked up an appetite before heading over to Eagle’s Deli, so we were quite ravenous when we got our plates. I don’t think I can do that anymore since I don’t exercise as intensely.

I’ve become more accustomed to short hair lately so thanks for your compliment!

@MizzJ: I was a big ball of energy when I was little, but I was extremely shy around strangers so that really killed my career as a young actor. =)
