Review: Peggy Li Creations

January 24, 2011

One of my New Year Resolutions is to find local designers to support. It was by luck that I became aware of Peggy Li Creations, which is based out of San Francisco.

Since I am a huge fan of chunky, statement accessories as well as delicately detailed necklaces, I was intrigued by Peggy Li’s collection of affordable hand-made fine jewelry and custom pieces for weddings and special occasions.

Peggy Li Creations designs timeless accessories with a simple, classic elegance. It has an effortless everyday quality to the pieces which can easily transition from day to night. She tries whenever possible to source raw materials from US-based manufacturers. In the summer, you can find Peggy Li at the Burlingame Farmer’s Market.

Peggy’s handmade jewelry design began with inspiration from the artisans on Berkeley’s famous Telegraph Avenue while attending UC Berkeley as a Chemical Engineering major. While working on a writing assignment in Los Angeles, Peggy met the costume designer for “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer” who requested multiple pieces on set in 2001. For over nine years, Peggy has been creating designer handmade jewelry that has been featured on Private PracticeGrey’s Anatomy, and Without a Trace.

“I enjoy designing jewelry, making things that help women feel beautiful. When women feel beautiful, they feel powerful and have more confidence.” – Peggy Li

The first item I received for review was a turquoise chunk necklace made with a 14k gold-filled chain that is 24 inches long. The three turquoise stones are uneven in shape to provide an organic pop of interest. The loops of the chain are of varying sizes but it is easy to adjust the length of the necklace. It makes a bold bohemian statement for casual or formal situations.

In the above photo, I’m wearing the necklace at 18 inches to better frame my face. When it comes to larger jewelry items, it looks best when the stones hang near the collarbones or around the navel area.

The second item is a feather ring made of sterling silver in size 5. The ring is adjustable with a squeeze of pressure to make it smaller.

It is a great design that works wonderfully for my small and slim fingers. It is rare to find small-sized rings that look proportional on my hand. This ring is just that…it has the right proportions so it doesn’t look too large or too small. Plus, it’s adjustable so you can wear it on multiple fingers.

I’m pleased with both items that I have received from Peggy Li Creations in terms of quality, craftsmanship, and design. It’s wonderful to discover a designer with a diverse jewelry collection who will make adjustments on a purchased item. When requested, Peggy Li will shorten or lengthen necklaces, bracelets, etc. so the piece you receive will fit you perfectly!

Disclaimer: This review is my honest opinion and I was not paid for it. The feather ring was a gift from Peggy Li and the necklace was sent back as it was used only for review purposes.

I like both pieces on you, and I love that the ring is adjustable… my fingers are around size 3 so I can never find fashion rings that fit, but maybe something like this will work.
