Pretty Girl Rock: Week 1 Recap

February 4, 2011

The first couple days of the 30 for 30 challenge has begun and it’s time for an outfit recap. I’m kind of nervous and excited to be documenting my outfits every day. Although you can easily recognize patterns and discover your “uniform,” I hope that it doesn’t get boring!

Outfit Details: Forever 21 cardigan – S, Lucky Brand tee – XS, Rock and Republic trouser jeans – 24, Forever 21 necklace, Talbots flats

Shop: cardigan, tee, jeans, flats

It’s rare that I wear animal print since I’m not usually drawn to it, but I snagged this cardigan from my sis’ closet that she never wears. So her loss is my gain. I’m oozing with new ideas for outfits with this cardigan.

Outfit Details: Forever 21 peacoat – XS, Banana Republic sweater – XS, Madewell black jeans – 24, Urban Outfitters headband, Aldo pumps

Shop: peacoat, sweater, jeans, pumps

I’ve been obsessed with boatneck tops lately. When my mom offered this sweater to me, I had to take it. It was too small for her, too “mature” for my younger sister, which made it kind of perfect for me. Winter chic at its best.

Outfit Details: Madewell double-breasted cardigan – XS, Zara Breton top – XS, Pacific Sunwear leggings – S, Forever 21 fish pendant, Corso Como boots

Shop: cardigan, toppendant, boots

Do you think sunglasses change the aesthetic of an outfit? I got these novelty cat-eye sunglasses from Fred Flare and they’re fun to wear, but they seem a bit big for my face. The Ray Ban Wayfarers (the smaller version) is more proportional to my face and it doesn’t give off that bug-eyed look. I’d love to expand my sunglasses collection, any suggestions?

Check out more photos on Weardrobe or on Facebook, though you have to be my Facebook friend first to see the photos. There are perks to be being my friend! =)

Meanwhile, the new song, Pretty Girl Rock, by Keri Hilson has been running through my head all day! The song is super catchy, but the music video is way better. Check it out!

It’s so much fun to shop from relative’s closets. My Mom and I wear the same shoe size. We exchange shoes once in a while. Great outfits. You’re doing wonderful with the challenge.

I like your remixes so far! I have the same issue with finding sunglasses proportional to my face…I usually get my sunnies at Target because I lose or break them so often, that it doesn’t make sense to invest a lot of money in a pair.

@PetiteLittleGirl: Shopping in my mom and sis’ closets are great because their styles are quite different from mine…so I can experiment without buying new things!

@Shen Dove: I agree, most of the sunglasses I have picked up so far have been on the cheaper side. The Ray Bans are probably the most expensive pair I own.

@Anonymous: Thanks! =)

You are way too cute! Loving all these outfits, but most especially the last one. The boots + striped top + blazer = perfection!

Super cute!! Boatnecks look so great on you!

It is great that you can shop in both your sister and your mom’s closet!! :)

As for sunglasses…try to find something polarized and cute! Ray Ban offers that option for some of their styles. I do love the novelty pair you are wearing! They look so cute on you!

And…thanks for getting that song stuck in my head, again! :p

Your Breton stripe look is my favorite this week. It reminds me of something all those cool, casual supermodels wear to work. I can’t wait to see your other outfits.

I really like all of your mixes, especially the striped top and fish necklace outfit! You’re so lucky to be able to share clothes with your mom and sister!!

That boatneck sweater from the 2nd outfit looks so lovely and cozy! The grey colour, the nice pattern reminiscent of stripes and the fact that it’s a knit make it a must-have in my book.

Ooops, it seems like I didn’t put in the right name in the previous comment, and I can’t seem to be able to erase it! Is there a way you could help me with that? Thanks so much!

@Cee: Thanks! The last one is definitely one of my favorites and when I don’t know what to wear, I pull out this outfit!

@Michelle: I’m really enjoying Ray Bans and I want to branch out and find new styles too.

@Linda: Thanks for the compliment! I hope the rest of my remixes will be just as good.

@Callandra: It’s way more fun to share closets with two other people and it gives me a chance to try things on that I never would’ve picked on my own.

@Ana: I agree, at first glance, the sweater just seems pretty basic, but it’s quite unique when you see all the details! =)

I LOVE the animal print cardi on you! It definitely adds pizazz to any kind of ensemble. You already know that I have a thing for stripes so of course I love the stripes + blazer + leggings outfit! Also wanted to comment about how well those Madewell jeans fit you – PERFECTION!

@Kileen: I’ll definitely be posting up my remixes with that cardigan, I feel like it can go with anything!

@The Little Dust Princess: I definitely selected my faves in the 30 items and they go with so many things!

@SewPetiteGal: LOL. Thanks for the compliments! I really needed some extra oomph to my outfits without it being so audacious…the simple pops of visual interest are always welcome in my book! Plus things always look that much nicer when it actually fits well. =)

Wow all of your outfits so far are fabulous!! Simple colors but so stylish and modern. I have found that wayfarers are the most flattering to my face as well – most other sunglasses that I like the looks of are just too big.

I didn’t used to be drawn to animal print but I’ve been seeing it on lots of remixers and I’m liking it. This totally works! Where are these pictures taken? I understand if you’d rather not reveal. Looks like a great lookout!

I’m taking photos on the edge of a residential/nature preserve near the San Francisco Bay. It’s almost at the edge of civilization but it has that relaxed lakeside wharf feel to it. I’m lucky to have stumbled upon it! =)

Ok. Question! How do you ge your {madwell} jeans to fit you so perfectly??? Mine always seem to loosen up around, well, everywhere. I would really love them to be tight around my calves like yours are. Any suggestions?

Also, the cat eye sunglasses are darling and definitely not too big for your face; I’ve been debating getting some myself, maybe I should go for it

-Monica

PS I kinda like your idea of doing one big post a week instead of one every day, saves more time I bet!!!

My Madewell jeans are 98% cotton and 2% spandex, so the material content might have helped them retain their shape and not be loose. Also, you can try shrinking your jeans in the wash so that they fit tighter. =)

I really like the animal print with the Lucky T. It’s so awesome you are doing the challenge. I want to do one and that’s partly the reason I started a blog (to do fun challenges and compare outfits) hopefully I can do the next one.

You can do so much with animal print! Can’t wait to see your remixes.
