Radiating Warmth: Mid-Week 2 Recap

February 9, 2011

It’s mid-week and I’m tired already.

I’m sure some of you are wondering where I’m taking my photos in the previous outfit post and I’ll share my little secret.

Nothing fancy, it’s just a nature trail overlooking the San Francisco Bay, the SF Bay Trail. It’s scenic and there tends to be landscape photographers in the area, so it’s not unusual for me to be there.

But due to multiple events going on this past weekend, I missed two outfit shots…so I might re-take photos of those outfits later.

Outfit Details: Martin + Osa cardigan – XS, American Apparel dress – XS, DKNY stockings, Forever 21 necklace,  Aldo nude pumps

Shop: cardigan, dress, stockings

I’m not big on colored tights and I was kind of wary wearing them on Friday, but it turned out alright. Last year, I had a binge where I bought several pairs of colored tights but I only wore them once because I thought it was too bright. I still think that way, but the dark green seems to be less noticeable.

The best way to start wearing colored tights is having a peek of it show with a dress and boots. The next step is pairing a simple neutral outfit and having the legs make a color statement. After that, you’re free to experiment and have fun to your heart’s content.

What do you think of colored tights?

Outfit Details: Lucky silk tee – XS, Madewell jeans – 24, Forever 21 necklace, Pacific Sunwear straw fedora hat,  Steve Madden Tuxxedo oxfords

Shop: top, jeans, oxfords

Monday turned out to be quite sunny with a slight breeze so I could get away with short sleeves in winter. This outfit is pretty “indie hipster” compared to my other looks, but I like it. It totally reminds me of Coachella. If only the weather would stay like this forever!

Outfit Details: Martin + Osa cardigan – XS, Madewell floral tank – XS, Rock & Republic jeans – 24, The Limited belt – XS, Talbots calf-hair flats

Shop: cardigan, top, jeans, flats

For Tuesday, florals seemed to be calling at me instead of the usual solids and stripes. Looking back, I don’t think this pant is very flattering on me and I’m not sure why. But I’m not going to be giving up on boot-cut styles or flares…I just need to find the perfect pair that’ll make me look and feel amazing!

How’s your week going so far?

i love the green tights on you and you totally pulled off wearing them. i completely agree with you as far as wearing colored tights — definitely start with something neutral and toned down until you’re used to it.

i’m also really loving these oxfords on you as well as the floral shirt! it’s right on trend for spring!

I’m quite scared of coloured tights as well, but you pulled them off well! I like your tip about only showing a bit – may have to try that out!

Great outfits, love the details on your cardigan!

I love your cardigan! I never heard of the brand and just looked them up and found out they’re shut down now. :(

You look so ready for spring! Its still the middle of winter here!! Around 14F!! I haven’t tried coloured tights yet….I’m definitely gonna try them with your suggestions (once it warms up here of course!)

I love that second outfit with the oxfords and fedora!

I love your floral top! Spring but not overly saccharine. As for bootcut jeans and flares (which I love!), I think you look good in yours! I also like a higher waist on you, especially when wearing flats. I noticed that my Joe’s have a higher waist than some of my other jeans and I love how long it makes my legs look!

I love your first outfit; simple and classic. I also love that cardigan!
Personally, I think that picture of you sitting on the bench captures everything I’ve read of you thus far, confident, funny and chill.

I absolutely love your first outfit. I would totally 100% wear that.

As for colored tights, I recently bought two pairs: teal and magenta (or fuschia?). I have not yet worn either for two reasons.

1.) I put a hole in the teal ones the moment I cut the tags off so they need to be worn only with longer skirts. I have the right length skirt and coordinating shoes, but the weather has not been open toe 4″ heel bootie friendly, so they wait.

2.) I feel like people with short legs have to be careful with colored tights because they can make our legs look stumpy. Whenever I try to work the magenta ones into an outfit I take them off because I just can’t get into the look.

This really is such a gorgeous spot for pictures. I’m so jealous of west coast weather!

I love the simplicity and casualness of the first look. Two thumbs up for colored tights. You wear them better than you think you do ;)

@Kileen: Thanks! I added some spring colors into my 30 items since the weather here tends towards the warmer side.

@Curls and Pearls: I’m working on the whole colored tights thing…still need to get the hang of it, but one little step at a time. The details in the cardigan is what makes it so unique!

@Lor: I was quite sad that M+O went out of business but I still love the items I own from them!

@Elaine: Thanks! It totally reminds me of being back in LA!

@Petite Mom: I agree, a higher rise on flared or bootcut jeans makes a world of difference, especially with flats!

@Gracie: Thanks for the compliment! I hoped that my photos would show a little bit of my personality in the poses and shots…it’s nice to know it’s noticed! =)

@Good Girl Gone Blog: Thanks! It’s definitely a warm weather staple for me.

@Kerry: I agree, colored tights can be tricky but a higher hemline and heels helps alleviate the visual “shortness”.

@Cee: I’m very grateful for the weather and I’m taking advantage of it as much as possible with outdoor photos. I’ll save indoor photos for when it rains or something. LOL. I’ve been loving more minimalist looks lately and I think it’s translating into my outfits as well.

I love the details on your cardi……..so cute! The necklace is a really great touch with that outfit too. I discovered Martin & Osca about one year before they closed :( Looks like it might be getting warmer there, I’m so jealous ;)

Oooh, I love outfit #1 so much! The cardi + necklace + dress + green tights – they just work together so beautifully! Also love the background of your photos :)

Ohh!! I love all your outfits…cannot decide which I like best! I do love the florals on you…something we do not always see.

Green tights are a nice baby step into color tights. Not a big fan either of colored tights. The boldest color I wear is my lavender scalloped tights.

@Callandra: I wish M+O lasted longer! The weather is tricky….it’s sunny but a super chill wind!

@Alli: Thanks!

@SewPetiteGal: That outfit was kind of a spontaneous pick, but it turns out to be a nice choice.

@Michelle: LOL. Each outfit isn’t a contest, but I enjoy them equally! =)

I do the boots + dress thing with colored tights a lot, but my other trick is actually to include a lot of color in the rest of the outfit instead of all neutrals. If you do it right, it works great because the color of the tights isn’t such a focal point, and takes a back seat to the rest of your outfit. It helps avoid the whole “look at my colored tights. LOOK AT THEM!” vibe that comes across when your legs are the only colorful part of you.
