Another week down and I’m another step closer to shopping freedom! The 30 for 30 challenge is in full swing and I’m still enjoying it. Less clothes to choose from means less time selecting which outfit to wear so that I can get out of the house faster.
It’s boot week due to the rain and out of my 30 items, those are the only “rainproof” shoes I have.

When it comes to accessories, I like bold and unique statement pieces. Lately, I’ve been craving for some new earrings and I was sent a pair by Emma Stine for review (the review will be coming along shortly).
Don’t you just love filigree-style earrings? It just makes everything look dressy!

Outfit Details: Madewell cardigan – XS, Banana Republic tunic -XS, Pacific Sunwear leggings – S, Emma Stine earrings, Peggy Li feather ring, Talbots flats
Shop: cardigan, tunic, earrings, ring
As for the outfit, I’m still ambivalent about the the tunic since it was a gift from my mom and sister. It’s pretty and more feminine than most things in my closet, but I’m not sure what outfits to create with it, so if you have any suggestions, please send it my way.

It’s the semi-androgynous looks that make me feel more comfortable. When the weather gets cold, I don’t really want to show off my curves, I’d much rather stay warm and toasty instead. With this rather dark and monotone outfit, the red nail polish really pops.

Outfit Details: Superdry Moody Bomber Jacket – XS, Banana Republic sweater – XS, Madewell black jeans – 25, Corso Como boots
Shop: jacket, boots
When it comes to knee high boots, I almost always pair the bottoms and the boots to the same color family to enhance the length of my legs. I’m not very tall, but I can pretend. If I wore light colored bottoms with dark boots, it wouldn’t give off the same leg-lengthening effect…in fact, it’d be the opposite.

Nobody wants to look shorter than they actually are, right?
Playing with proportions is key to developing a look that flatters your assets and minimizes your problem areas. With tunics, I prefer ones that just cover the bum but aren’t long enough to look like a dress. This way, the legs still look long, the torso looks slimmer, and you can hide your tummy.
Outfit Details: Forever 21 peacoat – S, Urban Outfitters sweater- XS, Pacific Sunwear leggings – S, Nordstrom B.P. scarf, Corso Como boots
Shop: peacoat, boots
I’m not sure why, but the above photo reminds me of the English countryside…via The Edge of Love or Pride & Prejudice? I’ve been watching a lot of Keira Knightley movies lately and it makes me wish I was British.

Or at least, have a British accent. My relatives in Hong Kong have British accents and even if they say silly things, it sounds smarter and more sophisticated than whatever I say in my American accent. Bah!

Outfit Details: Forever 21 trench – S, Forever 21 cardigan – S, Madewell black jeans – 24, Corso Como boots
Shop: cardigan, boots
Yes, this post is filled with random topics and things, but I’m checking to see who reads and who just looks at the photos. I don’t judge…I do the same thing too!

Tricky huh?…..Funny (I do the same thing too actually) Cute outfits btw……I seriously don’t know how you girls are so strong with this 30 for 30 challenge. By now I’m sure that I would be found in the fetal position in front of my closet door clutching shoes and various clothing articles! Lol Totally agree about the english / british accents…I’v always wanted one for sure! Tunics are very hard to pull off for petite’s and this is certainly one of the absolute best ways to do it. I was admiring the nail polish actually. I’ve been wearing my nails bright too, just to help get me through ’till spring
To be honest, I don’t wear that shade of pink very often just because it’s so hard to pull of for me. I’d probably add a bright floral scarf so the top would be more of a supporting background piece……..impressed with my reading and retention skills? hee hee
LOL. I’m glad you read my posts, I was starting to wonder if anyone actually reads through the whole thing since they’re getting lengthier over time. As for the 30 for 30, I’m adjusting to my 30 items and I realize how often I want to repeat outfits. I try to change it up a little, but when I like something, I want to wear it everyday. =)
i love the filigree earrings and can’t wait to read the upcoming review. and i agree that matching the boot color with the pants does help lengthen the legs. and i love the red nail polish to add a pop of color to your outfit!
My favorite outfit out of all (so many great ones to choose from!) is the light dusty pink with that fabulous animal print. I usually am repulsed by light baby pink but I find myself in those rare moments really wanting your coat! Thanks for the tip on how to wear long boots, I usually get nervous wearing those. =0P
I’m also warming up to light pink recently. That F21 coat has been sitting in my closet for a long time since I thought it looked too much like a pink lab coat…but it seems to work wonderfully when paired with gray items.
I’m laughing about the accent comment – your relatives in Hong Kong have a British accent. My fiance is from South Africa, but he has completely lost his accent and now sounds like a slightly confused American. When we visit his family in Cape Town, his mom always introduces him as “her American son” and people get really confused. What’s even weirder is the last time we were there, we were in a restaurant and his mom did the whole “this is my son, he’s from America” comment to the waiter, and the water happened to be American. So he started talking to us and he said to my fiance “you’re from New England, aren’t you? I can tell by your accent.”
Which I found puzzling since he does not have a New England accent at all…but apparently he does.
I was in boots all of last week and the week before due to excessive snow and cold weather. It finally hit over 50F this week here (unseasonably warm for mid February) and I was able to wear open toe heels again. And I never, ever wear mismatched color boots with bottoms for the same reason – chops you in half at the knee and makes you look like a mushroom.
Accents really change people’s perception of you and it’s so interesting how they can sound so different to so many people. As for the weather, it’s like nearing 40F degrees and I’m ready to bust out my snow jacket and you’re wearing open toe heels at 50F?! I’m amazed how you deal with low temperatures! I’m such a wimp when it comes to cold weather.
Normally it’s between 0ºF and 30ºF from December – March, with December being the warmest of our winter months and Jan/Feb being just brutal. The first time the temps went over 30ºF this year (2011) I was amazed at how warm it felt. And then the last two days it was over 50 when I got out of work and I was walking around outside in just a dress and a light cotton sweater and I felt warm – I would have sworn it was 70 is felt so warm. But if it were to drop to 50F in July I would be reaching for layers. It’s the whole perception thing – after 6-8 weeks of temps below 30, 50 feels warm.
I usually scroll through to look at all the pictures first. Cuz who isn’t drawn to pretty, bright, pictures?! Then I go back and read through the text more carefully. Although, I’ll be honest, sometimes I stop reading when there are paragraphs of text that I don’t find interesting.
I can see the feminine pink top paired with a high-waisted pencil skirt. Unfortunately I don’t have pierced ears, but I do really want filigree-type rings! (and this is coming from a girl who isn’t into rings, lol).
I think it’s the dark skies from the “country-side”-looking photos that reminds me of Britain. Isn’t it always foggy over there? Nevertheless the scenery is breathtaking and you look great!
I agree, I’m a visual person and sometimes long blocks of text make my eyes glaze over just a little. LOL.
Thanks for the tips with the pink top, I’ll definitely try out that combo since I didn’t even think of doing that! As for Britain’s weather, I get the feeling that it can be quite foggy and overcast…at least, from my limited experience in London.
Lol!! Tricky, tricky! I do not comment unless I have read the whole post! :p And I tend to stay away from blogs that post a whole lot too frequently.
I think you styled the tunic well…I love the purple cardigan and the purple flats! It is nice receiving presents that are slightly different than what you would normally buy!
You are making me want to paint my nails! I rarely paintmy finger nails, other than a protective coat.
I know what you mean, when people post too frequently for me to keep up, I just pick their posts that are most interesting for me to read and comment on. Otherwise, I’d been bombarding their blog with several comments on each post when I read it all at once. LOL.
I’m trying to use up my nail polish collection, so I’ve been amping up on the self-manicures. That way, I can make room for new colors. =)
Oooo must have that purple cardi! Is it good quality? And those Talbot flats- comfy? They are so cute!
Your pictures are always so nice and clear- the background/sky looks fake, it’s so pretty!
I love the pink and purple combo, so delicate and pretty. Also love these pictures with different colors of sky.
i love the stuff you’ve put together but most of all i love the animal print in the last day! you look adorable. and your hair, i wish i could keep mine that neat all the time
lovely!
@Really Petite: The Madewell cardigan is decent quality, but it does start pilling after a while. I probably wouldn’t recommend it since I think the ATL cardigans are better. The Talbot flats on the other hand are quite comfy and they’re really well-made, though the bottom is quite slick when you first get them. As for the sky…well, I guess it’s less smoggy than LA so it looks clearer than the other outdoor photos. LOL.
@Nelah: I think pink is really growing on me lately since I used to hate that color. =P
@Patty: Thanks! My hair is quite messy with all the wind blowing through it all day, but I guess it gives it more personality. =)
I too like a good British accent, though my brief period of living with an Italian girl who learned British English taught me that everyone just wants what seems more “foreign” to them (she loved my “Canadian” accent!). As for outfits, I like the way you pulled off that tunic – as a petite girl myself, I too am afraid of wearing tunics for their shortening effect, but one of these days I might just give them a try!
I am also warming up to pink these days – on my recent trip to Urban Outfitters, I almost bought a dusty pink cardigan but had to let it go for budget reasons. I had never even considered trying them on before!
Love all your bright shiny pictures! I need to put myself on a shopping ban as well
you seem to be doing really well for the 30 for 30 challenge.
I love British films, especially Jane Austen. I’d love to dress like that era for fun someday. My favorite P&P though is the one with Colin Firth. Now there’s a man whose accent makes him seem eternally classy and regal
I have to say, even swearing in a British accent sounds more smart!!
Ah, all of your outfits are so cute! I can’t decide which one I like best–the first one with the purple cardigan or the last one with the leopard print top. Either way, I love them all!
