Wishful Thinking

February 23, 2011

With less than a week to go for my two month shopping ban, I’ve been creating a wishlist of things I’d like to purchase once my ban is over. I’m not sure if I’ll actually purchase these items, but here’s a peek of what I’m currently craving.

I have a lot of sweater cardigans, mostly boyfriend styles, but I want something different. This Pencey Wrap Cardigan is a departure from my typical look and I love how it drapes. Plus, it looks very figure flatting since it emphasize your curves when belted.

The next item is the AG Angelina Petite Bootcut Jean. For bootcut and flared jean styles, I think it’s best to have a petite-specific jean since the proportions of these styles are paramount to how it looks on you.

If the proportions are just right, you can look amazing and slim. But if it’s not, you can look a little stumpy as was the case with some of my Rock & Republic bootcut jeans. I know better now and the AG jeans will be my investment piece that will add some streamlined sophistication to my outfits. If you have any suggestions or reviews about petite premium denim please let me know because I’m interested in finding a great pair of jeans!

Recently, a few petites (Jean of Extra Petite and Kelly of AlterationsNeeded) featured the Ann Taylor Petite Shell with Necktie in their posts. I had my eye on this top since it popped up online but I have yet to check it out in person. I love the pleated vertical detail that lengthens the torso and the necktie details adds a nice visual interest to the top.

With Ann Taylor, I fall between petite and regular sizes when it comes to tops because I prefer longer lengths and the petite sizes sometimes feel a bit too short on me. I’ll know for sure when I see it in real life.

So that’s a quick recap of my current obsessions.

What are some items on your wishlist?

I love your choices!
As for jeans, I am a petite and I really like Joe’s Jeans. Their Provocateur lines are made for petites.
On my spring/summer wishlist are bright colors, including a red watch!

Hi there! Thanks for leaving a comment on my new blog! I really appreciate it, as I am totally inspired by you and so many other ladies.

I need a shopping ban too! It worked ok in January, but this month I went totally nuts.

I agree with the above comment about Joe’s Jeans, I have a petite flare jean from them and the length is great, but only with heels. I also love skinny jeans from Citizens of Humanity.

I did several reviews on jeans recently on my blog. For bootcut jeans, Joe’s Jeans Provocateur Petite Fit Bootcut Jeans fit me quite well. Also heard that J Brand Love Story is terrific for flares but haven’t tried it myself yet. I’ve tried AG jeans in the past but not their petite line. If you try it, I’d be interested in hearing how they fit. Good luck on your search!

The AT shell is on my wish list too. I love it so much. I hope it’ll go on further sale soon. Great picks! You’re doing wonderful with your shopping ban and challenge.

Your choices are all beautiful. I am not sure if the ban is actually working or serves it purpose. As for me personally, I feel like it is a bomb just waiting to explode lol. It all depends on your strongwill (mine is pretty weak sometimes lol).

Wonderful choices! I’m particularly interested in how you’ll review the AT tie-neck blouse. Great job with the ban! You are an inspiration to me on self-control :)

I am in the same bf cardigan boat. Really love the look of the Pencey one.

On my wish list is a wide leg / bell bottom jean. I had to sell the J Brand Love Story bc they were much too low, not to mention I’d have to hem a good 8 inches off :)

Gap’s new jeans are pretty good. I tried on a few of their wide legs in petite length and was happy overall. Only thing is that the denim feels kinda thin and cheap and not worth the retail price.

@FaithJ: I heard great things about Joe’s jeans! I’m on the lookout for colorful clothes too!

@B: I wanted to do a shopping ban because I was moving and I already spent a lot of money over the holidays so I had to hold back. But I’m getting used to not shopping and it’s not as bad as I thought.

@Petite Mom: Your posts about jeans were very informative and I want to try J.Brand too.

@Anonymous: Thanks! I hope to finish the challenge and the shopping ban strong! =)

@Kileen: I haven’t been finding a lot of things I have to buy, so the shopping ban makes me pickier about what I should buy.

@Nelah: I think the shopping ban is helping me a lot since it makes me pay attention to the quality, style, and fit of a garment. I also notice that I tend to want similar items so going over my wishlist edits out a lot of unnecessary purchases.

@SewPetiteGal: Thanks! With the shopping ban, I’ve been tempted many times, but I’ve stuck with it also because at the end, my reward is a steak dinner…so it’s either clothes or food…and for me, food wins in the end. =P

@Ro: I’ve only tried GAP jeans during the initial redesign and I wasn’t a fan of the material, but maybe things have changed since then.

Somehow, I can’t go back to bootcut jeans… Or at least I haven’t found any that are flattering on me, compared to my skinny jeans. However, I know that when I’m 40+, I’ll have to retire my skinnies (you can bet I’ll still be wearing skinny jeans when I’m in my 30′s!). I’m looking forward to your AG jeans review when you purchase them. :]

Ah yes, that shell has been popping up everywhere lately. I’m interested in it as well, but I’m still searching for a pencil skirt first. There’s so many options when it comes to tops, but not with skirts (that won’t cost $$$ for alterations!).

BTW love your 30 for 30 challenge pictures so far! They’re so inspirational. :]

These are great picks! I tend to go with “regular” for tops because I like tops longer as well. My reason is because of my pooch. Can I still call it baby weight when my baby is 6 1/2? I can’t wait to see what you get from your wishlist (all!) and what else you discover.

I have a wishlist all set too ;) One month ban was already hard enough, so major kudos to you for a two-month shopping ban. I love the detailing on the AT top, but I wish it was long sleeved instead. I think it’s still worth checking out in stores though. We’re finally in the home stretch of the 30 for 30. Keep up the good work, Jess!

I love how you mentioned the details of the AT top will enhance a petite woman’s figure. It makes me more aware of the little stuff in clothing…most of the time I just look at something and like it without thinking if it will look good on me.

@Really Petite: Definitely try a shopping ban….I almost tempted to go another month…but I really want to test out the Pencey cardigan. =P

@Christina: I totally understand the feeling…I live in skinny jeans most days, but I’m embracing change. As for pencil skirts, I found H&M to be the most figure flattering and small, but I prefer a higher quality material and shell out some extra cash for alterations.

@Jen HaHa: I actually hope that I don’t get all the things on my wishlist…at least not at one time! =)

@Cee: Thanks! I’ve been hitting the wall when it comes to outfits, but I think the ban makes me pickier about my fashion choices, so I don’t feel as pressured to buy things as much as I used to.

@ML: LOL. I’m not the only that loves that AT top, seems like it’s a hit with everyone! =)

@Jarucha: I do the same thing too, I just pick up something because it caught my eye, but increasingly I’m becoming more aware of what details and structural elements can enhance one’s shape. Little things become more important when I’m trying to cut down on my spending! =)

I love Paige Premium Denim in Laurel Canyon Petite for a slim boot cut that is incredibly flattering. Such a good fit and they last SO well. I have a pair from 2006 that has had very regular wear that still looks great. They also never bag out even after being put in the dryer.

Paige seems to be a major hit with petites. I must try it out and thanks for the tip! =)
