We’re having some schizophrenic weather with rain one day and sunny skies the next. I can barely keep up with the changes so I bring my umbrella everywhere just in case. It definitely makes putting together outfits that much harder but outerwear doesn’t count in the 30 items or at least not my pink trench.

I’m not big on games, but I’m decent at some board games or party games.
Settlers of Catan or Cranium makes my head hurt, but I do enjoy a good round of Apples to Apples. It’s my new favorite game because I actually have an opportunity to win! For some reason, my random and ironic sense of humor comes out when I play and I love the unpredictable nature of each set.

Outfit Details: Forever 21 trench – S, Target dress – S, The Limited fur scarf, J.Crew herringbone tights, Corso Como boots
Just like my outfits, random…but maybe it’s starting to look a little predictable? In my head, I think I’m doing well for the 30 for 30 but when I check my list of 30 items, I realize that I’ve neglected half of them!
I’m definitely going to push to wear my “unworn” items next week and spit out some new looks.

When it comes to boyfriend-style clothing, I love cardigans, tops and blazers. But boyfriend jeans?
I have to pass, but that doesn’t mean I can’t replicate this look with my “skinny” Levi’s. Normally, I’d recommend that you wear heels or wedges with this look to elongate your legs since the cuffed hem visually shortens your body. But I like pairing oxford flats with them and it suits me just fine.

Outfit Details: Forever 21 peacoat – S, Alexa Chung for Madewell blouse – XS, Levi’s skinny jean – 25, Emma Stine earrings, Steve Madden Tuxxedo oxfords
I am definitely a huge supporter of breaking fashion rules.
If you’re unsure about how your should look, check out the “rules” to help you find out what looks good on you. After that, experiment and break the rules to find the fun and interesting styles in which you can still look amazing, but you don’t have to always follow the norm.

Most petite style tips involve figure-enhancing techniques to lengthen your frame and to emphasize your waist. For me, that’s a good start, but there’s so much more you can wear. So why not be bold and wear less body-hugging pieces to explore other clothing options?
I think I’m so used to having clothes be several sizes too big on my frame that I’ve adopted that look into my personal style. As much as I like it, I would love to find more tailored items to get a good mix of silhouettes and textures.

Outfit Details: Madewell double-breasted cardigan – XS, Zara Breton top -XS, Rock and Republic jeans – 24, Casualmere scarf, Talbots flats
Fashion should be fun and you should enjoy the experience! It makes me sad when people adopt a super utilitarian philosophy toward clothes that they don’t get to enjoy the silliness that is fashion. On the flip side, I don’t approve of mindless consumerism where you just buy everything in the store only to satisfy your need for the newest novelty. I think there needs to be a balance between frivolity and functionality but just enough to keep you wanting a little bit more.

I may be guilty of being boring Jess! LOL But since blogging, I have definitely ventured out to different colors and layers and trying new things…good thing for the petite community otherwise I would still be in preggy dresses that don’t fit my frame! LOL
i just love these new photos!
I love Apples to Apples, too! There’s another other kind of similar. Whoknu, I think, that’s really fun, too.
I love the fun, silly pics.
Excellent entry about breaking the rules. Rules are nice as go to on lazy days (at least in my opinions), but the true style comes out when people experiments with their own tastes to grow and find new things about themselves. Style is an owning process.
I love the oxfords with the rolled up jeans. I’ve been trying to replicate the look since I’ve seen it on jcrew’s models. The “not perfectly” near rolled up look is actually difficult to achieves.
Hhhhmmm…I’ve never played apples to apples, but I love card and board games! I really like your outfits in these pictures……..haven’t been a fan of the oxford flat look so far, but I have to say I really like the way you’ve paired them here!
I love that soft pink color of the trench! For some reason, I was expecting a fuchsia bright pink when you first mentioned it and I was pleasantly surprised to see more of a pastel color. I always love your outfits and I definitely still have an affinity for looser fitting clothing – so comfy! What I’ve mostly learned is that everything is about balance – loose top with fitted pants or vice versa, but there are days when all that goes out the window and I just wear whatever I feel like
Apples to Apples is probably the greatest game ever. I love it. Also, you’re outfits are so adorable.
Funny how I never heard of this game…so out of the loop. I think you’re totally right…sometimes we should just wear what we want as long as we’re comfortable and like how it looks. Fashion is an expression of our personality afterall. And its funny how last month, I was dying to get a faux fur scarf (actually got one from Macy’s INC brand but returned it since my mom said it looked stiff and not youthful)….long story short – I craved my desire for faux fur by getting a jacket instead. Ahahaa.
@ReallyPetite: I agree that the petite community has made me more aware of styles and silhouettes that I may not have tried before. Love the creativity and diversity amongst the petites!
@Aubrey: Thanks! =)
@Ski Petite: I must look into Whoknu…if it’s like Apples to Apples, I’m sure I’ll enjoy it too!
@Gracie: I agree that true style comes when you are confident in what you wear and how you wear it. As for the jeans, I’m not that particular about rolling them up, so they end up not perfect most of the time. LOL.
@Callandra: I’ve had a love/hate relationship with my oxfords. Sometimes, I love them and I want to wear them everyday but other times, I just want to put them away. LOL. I guess it just depends on what outfits I make with them. =)
@SewPetiteGal: Loose tops just feel more comfortable to me than more form-fitting clothes, but I think a change would be nice to keep things fresh and interesting!
@Kristin Wyly: Thanks! Apples to Apples is so fun!
@Jarucha: Apples to Apples is a game in which you select words to describe a certain topic and a judge decides which answer is best. It’s like a free-for-all style game since the judge rotates each round and the winner is selected seemingly arbitrarily. It’s a bit hard to describe, but it’s so fun! =)
you look so adorable in these outfits and pictures =)
love your blue peacoat!
Love all these cute pictures of you relaxing in the park! And love the Forever21 trench you’re wearing in the first couple of pictures. It certainly looks cold, and you look so cute!
If only I could remember what the rules were in the beginning in order to break them!
Love the pink trench, and the madewell cardigan, of course!
@ANNIE: Thanks, I try to put some fun into the photos so they’re not so serious all the time. =)
@Grace: I probably need a recap of the rules too. LOL. Maybe I should share what the rules are in another post.
@Kimmie: Thanks for stopping by!
Love that pink trench! Your weather sounds like a typical Seattle spring. I like Settlers of Cattan but I don’t play it very strategically. Cranium is fun! My boys have played Apples to Apples at school and LOVE it. I’ve heard lots of people say they love it. Sounds like I need to pick up a game!
Saw that you’re hosting the next PFC. I’m looking forward to it!
I have yet to visit Seattle, but I hear it’s so pretty there…and the air is so clean. LOL.
As for the PFC, I’ll have the challenge announcement out in a few days and give everyone enough notice to select their outfits! =)
Never heard of apples to apples!
I totally agree with you – while most of the “rules” out there are about emphasizing your waist and your shape and elongating your body I do love the look of flowy and less structured items. it’s just so girly and romantic! On the other side I also love the wide / straight leg pant look that is a bit more menswear inspired.
Hi! Thanks for dropping by my sewing blog! I love your effortless chic style. I follow your blog through an RSS reader on my phone. I’m commenting on this post instead of your latest one cos I love your oxford shoes outfit in this post and your take on “style rules” is spot on!
