To continue with my previous review of Allison Izu denim, I also tested out the skirt styles.
When it come to denim skirts, two silhouettes automatically come to mind, the mini and the classic pencil skirt.

The Nolu skirt in 000/00 is a denim mini skirt with an elastic waist.
The color is deeply saturated with a thick material and it also has a side zipper pocket. The length is shorter than I imagined since I’m so used to having “mini-skirts” look like regular length skirts on my 5’1″ frame.

When I first received the skirt, I was unsure how to wear it but I got it right in the end. The back of the skirt has has a zipper that can function as a slit. The zipper is useful for helping you put on the skirt due to a slightly tapered hem. I would definitely have it fully zipped when walking around.
On me, the skirt creates a tulip-like silhouette that emphasizes my hips and matches the line of the leg. I can see this skirt being worn on the beach or a sea-side escape. Casual, cute, and it actually looks like a mini on a petite person!

In contrast, the Peni denim skirt in 00 has the perfect hourglass silhouette with a longer length. The tapered hem creates a very womanly figure and it adds sophistication to the denim material. I would need a size down to a 000 for the Peni skirt for a better fit at the waist but it’s well-proportioned overall. This skirt is versatile for many different occasions which make it perfect for dressy days and casual weekend gatherings.
Allison Izu makes amazing denim items that are made specifically for shorter bodies and petites. The proportions are spot on and the many styles can work for a variety of different body types.

Wow- that first skirt is short..LOL But at least it shows off your legs:)
And I also tried on that pencil skirt and it was too big on me too…
oh my that first skirt is short, short, short! LOL! I would be waaay to self conscious to wear that myself
I really like the look of the 2nd skirt, I’m sure if you had the right size it would make a really great basic.
That is so cute! I want to do a denim skirt petite lookbook soon – but – it’s still too cold to wear skirts
@Really Petite: I think we’re similarly sized so we have the same issues when it comes to each style.
@Curls and Pearls: I’m ok with some minis but I think this one is a tad too short for normal day wear, but I would wear it on the beach. =)
@Slayerbabe: Thanks! You should totally do a lookbook once the weather warms up!
Mini skirts that are petite sized are hard to find! I like the zipper on the back, adds a unique touch. Really loving the denim pencil skirt! I never thought denim pencil skirts can look classic.
Thanks for the review! It’s shocking to have a mini actually fit like a mini for once, isn’t it? I like the silhouette of the pencil skirt and would’ve wanted to try if I didn’t already have my denim pencil skirt from LOFT!
