Freedom of Color

April 1, 2011

A few months of no shopping and it seems like there’s tons of new stuff to see since all the winter items are gone and the spring/summer stock is here.

Taking advantage of the warm weather, I took a stroll along Burlingame Ave to scope out the local boutiques.

As I was walking along the street, I noticed that one store was having a close-out sale which means everything was heavily discounted.

I didn’t expect much since it seemed like the sale had been going on for some time. In the midst of all the black pants and the random scattering of khaki and linen items, I saw a lone magenta dress in XS.

Lo and behold, it was a Viereck piece!

I interviewed Deborah Viereck a few months ago and in my hands was a dress from her collection. It was a great surprise and I hurriedly tried it on in the fitting room. I went to the nearest mirror where another customer was perusing her potential purchases. She remarked that the dress was perfect on me and that I must buy it.

Outfit Details: Viereck Terabyte dress – XS, Forever 21 earrings and bangles, PacSun hat

It’s a shift dress with a twist.

The photos don’t do justice to the vibrant magenta hue or how the silk drapes across the body, but this chance encounter made it quite difficult to let go of the dress…so I bought it. Viereck sizes can run down to an XXS and if I went down a size, it would be slightly more fitted, but it’s not a big issue with this style. I like how it’s loose and billowy; perfect for spring and summer.

What do you think? Too big, too bright, or just right?

What a perfect piece for spring/summer! It’s not big at all, the billowy shape looks really good on you (me…not so much!) What shoes were you wearing with this dress? :)

I was wearing strappy gladiator sandals with this outfit. But I can see it working with pumps or straw wedges. =)

@Kileen: I love that it’s a bright color and it’s fairly versatile to dress up or down.

Just right! Absolutely just right! That color is stunning on you and I think if it fit any closer, it wouldn’t have as carefree and Spring-y of a vibe like it does now. You look phenomenal!!!

@Really Petite: I’m always drawn to this shade as well, but it’s such an unusual style, I had to pick it up! =)

@tinymum: Thanks! I appreciate the compliment and I hope I live up to your expectations.

@Brenda: It’s a very smart and pretty dress…I can tell that there was a lot of thought put into the design.

@Annie: Thanks! I’m trying to make the most of my time with the new lens before I send it back. LOL.

@Melissa: I really do love the breezy look of this dress and though it might be unintentional, it matches my aesthetic quite well.

@Callandra: The semi-matte sheen of the dress tones down the deeply saturated color in the photos, but it’s still lovely. =)

@Cee: Thanks! It’s true, I don’t do brights often, but I’m working on adding brighter hues as the weather warms up.

@Khatu: I love it too much to part with it, but you can borrow it! =P

@Erin: This jewel tone flatters so many skin tones I think you’d rock this color too at the wedding!

@Lyddiegal: It’s an amazing find and probably the best I’ve encountered this year! =)

I think this dress is perfect for you! The color is gorgeous! And the looseness gives it a flowey feel and looks super comfy, especially for warm weather. I went back to read the interview, and true to the description….I can totally see this dress going from day to night!

@Olyvia: Thanks for checking out the interview! This dress is a versatile piece and already, I’ve worn it for day and nighttime occasions. LOL. I can’t stop wearing it!

@Rachel: The color is so amazing, it’s so cheery.

@Recovering Shopaholic: I try to take photos outdoors as much as possible since the weather is so agreeable. Plus the green makes the magenta stand out even more! =)

@Beartea: Whenever it’s spring/summer, I live in my straw fedora since it’s cute and it protects my head from the sun.

@Curls and Pearls: I’m really enjoying this dress and it’s one of the few I’m really excited about and when I see it in my closet, I giggle a little every time.

@SewPetiteGal: I agree, the waist detail is what makes it so unique and so interesting. =)

The vibrant color of the dress is lovely on you! I also like how you’re able to get these artistic pictures by yourself without a photographer! Do you take wide shots and then crop or just spend a lot of time experimenting?

Reply

admin April 5, 2011 at 7:23 pm

I experiment constantly and each photo session is a chance to get better and figure out what looks best. Lucky breaks, cropping, and taking more photos helps to get better results. I take about 20-30 shots each time and work with those. Plus, I get nerdy…I read photography books and fstoppers.com for tips and advice from a photographer’s POV. =)
