What? No meetup photos yet?!
It’s been quite a hectic weekend so I haven’t gotten around to posting photos from the SF Blogger Meetup. But rest assured that I’ll have them out sometime this week. Twas lovely to meet some famous bloggers like Michelle of FVNCY, Aimee of Song of Style, and Wendy of Wendy’s Lookbook.

In the meantime, I’ve been figuring out ways to add more color in my life.
One way is with little accents for an unexpected flourish. Swapping in forest green leggings instead of basic black jazzes up an ensemble. It’s not too noticeable but it makes a big difference.
While oversized men’s watches have dominated the scene for the fall and winter season, colorful ones, like this CROW Toddy watch definitely say spring and summer. I’m obsessed with these chunky, funky watches because they’re so vibrant and cheery!

Outfit Details: TJ Maxx shirtdress – S, The Limited leggings – M, Emma Stine earrings, CROW Toddy watch, Forever 21 handbag, Aldo pumps
Shop: shirtdress, leggings, shoes
Last spring, I picked up this shirtdress and I thought it was the next big thing. But a year later, it’s not as eye-catching as I once believed. I still wear it around when I’m running errands and when I want to feel more dressed up than tees and jeans. Is it still cool or should I toss it out?

Such a cute shirtdress!

To be honest, I’m not a fan of the babydoll top. I think it has great promise maybe as a DIY to change up the volume. I think it looks great as a casual outfit but it can look even better if it is tucked in or sans volume?
I can’t wait to see the meet up post! You got to meet Wendy? I’m so jealous!
Too cute, Jess! A great casual look for the weekend.
I’m kind of mixed on the shirtdresses trend. I think I prefer ones that are a bit more tailored… perhaps a belt to go with the babydoll shape?
cute as always,
i think it’d look great w/ a belt (over the existing tie). in the summer, it would look great with a pair of white shorts & a hat
They are certainly comfy, but even I found myself picking out my shirt dress from my closet and putting it in the Sell/Donate basket. As style bloggers, our style is always evolving… something comfortable probably always has a better, chicer alternative somewhere else in our closet. Personally, I used to find the shirt dress chic, but they’re kind of shapeless, and make tiny girls like we are, look even younger/smaller.
I think you can part with it and not be heartbroken.
xx{ish.},
Mae Lu @ thereafterish.!
I like shirt dresses on others, but I don’t own one for myself – mainly because I’ve never found one that flattered my figure and that was in my price range.
I can’t advise in terms of whether to keep or toss that particular shirt dress, but I do think it’s cute if that helps at all. ;D
I believe almost any piece is “workable”. I would try to change the silhouette of this piece as it does make you look younger. It fits you well though, and especially for last minute weekend outfits, it’s a safe and fast option.
awe, you have that cute face in pic #1 that i <3!
i like the funky watch as an accessory! and that shirtdress gives a babydoll effect that i love. also, the green instead of the black was a great choice!
maybe add a statement necklace next time (i've been seeing a lot lately around the blogging world)?
omgg! you met Wendy! *fangirl scream*
you can definitely belt it for another look, add a cardi?? i like the green leggings in place of black!

It was so fun that you get to meet some famous bloggers. I can’t wait to see the pictures. I am not a big fan of shirt dress. They just look funny on me. Your outfit looks pretty comfy though.
You know what, if you like it and are comfy in it, doesn’t matter if it’s cool or not. I think you’re pulling it off quite well. I agree with an above comment that a necklace would’ve looked really pretty too.
Hope you’re having a great week so far!
I think the shirtdress looks cute on you but it poofs out a bit too much for my liking. I think cinching a belt around the waist would help a bit
And I love your flats btw! They’re such a perfect, nude color ^^
I like the pleated details on the front of the shirtdress (maybe b/c I own plaid flannel shirts that have pleats)….ahaha. And mines are kinda loose and just so soft. My go to for winter….so I def don’t think you need to throw it out. I don’t think every outfit has to be spectacular but this one seems casual and comfy so for that, KEEP!
@Marie: I’m happy that you approve, I’m so ambivalent about it. LOL.
@Banhannas: The top is quite voluminous on the bottom and I’ve considered trying to tone it down, but it’s not as noticeable IRL, but the photos tell a different story. =)
@Cee: Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll have to try it with a belt.
@Jenny: I agree, shorts would be a great match for this top. =)
@Mae Lu: I appreciate your honesty and it’s true, we always change and evolve, so it’s only natural that our tastes will change as we age.
@Quest for Fashion Sense: Thanks for your input, I am on the fence with this top since I’ve gotten compliments on it, but at the same time, I think there are better options out there. =)
@Stacey: The styling of this top definitely skews younger, but that’s not always a bad thing. With a little bit of creativity, I’m sure there are sophisticated options for this top.
@kimchigirl: I’ve been on the hunt for bib necklaces since I’ve probably worn my statement pieces way too many times. LOL. But I agree, something around the neckline would bring the emphasis nearer to the face.
@The Little Dust Princess: LOL. That’s what I felt like saying on the inside when I met all the “big” bloggers like Aimee, Wendy, etc.
@oomph: A cardigan would be a nice alternative to dress up this top! =)
@PetiteLittleGirl: I’ll have the photos out soon!
@Brenda: You are exactly right! I should wear whatever I want for any reason! I guess I get sucked into the whole “fashion bubble.” Thanks for your insight! You are my voice of reason. =)
@Rinny: Thanks! Nude shoes are such a great staple to have, probably even moreso than black shoes.
@Jarucha: I agree, not everything has to be a home run right? There are different occasions and situations where casual outfits are preferred. =)
I bought a shirt dress last year too….also blue/white stripes, but since I bought it in HK, it looks even more babydoll/childish. When I wore mine last year, some ppl said it looked like a maternity shirt. Maybe I’ll need to reconsider mine. Yours look more versatile and more mature than my version of the shirt dress, and I think therefore more workable! I’m trying to add more colour to my outfits too….I bought *gasp* bright orange and pink tights today.
Can’t wait to see your photos from the blogger meetup!
Yay on the shirtdress, it looks very nice on you.
