Warm Weather Combos

May 6, 2011

After weeks of cleaning, I finally pinned down my seasonal capsule collection.

One of my clothing goals is to get the most mileage out of my seasonal items, so I’m putting these clothes and accessories in the forefront to push myself to wear them. If you’re always in seasonless classics, when will you indulge in the silly, frivolousness that the warm weather brings?

Shop: necklace, watch

I can’t pull off every spring/summer trend, but I can add pieces to keep the outfits looking relevant and updated without having to buy a whole new set clothes. Accessories make a huge difference when you love wearing basics. You can go from a ladies’ brunch to the golf course by swapping out a few accessories instead of changing into another outfit. I prefer to do this when I have several places to go, but each has slightly different dress codes.

Versatility is a must, if I can’t make several outfits with an item, it travels out of my closet and into someone else’s.

This season, I’m headed for new territory…I’m making an extra effort to wear warmer tones like reds, corals, and oranges. Subconsciously, these tones seem to draw more attention than other colors so I used to shy away from them. For a long time, I wanted to blend in, be invisible, and not stand out…and now, I don’t really care. Like many have said, you’re only young once!

So let the seasonal wardrobe challenge begin!

stepping out of your comfort zone/exploration = what fashion is all about.

loving both color schemes, but i can’t wait to see you in the warmer colors! from the view you gave us, none of those corals and reds are super bright–they’ll make for a seamless transition :)

You should never want to blend in. Obviously we have never met in person but from what I read on your blog, you seem awesome! Go out and wear those bright colours! I’m excited to see all your summery outfits!

Thanks so much for your support! As I get older, I get bolder and I’m not as shy as I used to be. But at times, I still think in those terms because I’ve been such a wallflower for so long.

Can’t wait to see you in more of the reds!!

I must admit, it makes me sad to see that orange Martin + Osa belt! I did not buy it when it was on discount. I bought the black (which I wore today) and the blue, but not the orange. Grrr!!

I love that there is so much colour in these items that you picked. I used to shy away from too much color as well, but now I’m so excited for warm weather and wearing lots of colorful pieces (purple is one of my favourites, and that scarf really caught my attention!) that I don’t really think about it anymore.

This is a great post! I love all the items you featured – reds and corals are definitely in this season. And I can relate to what you said about wanting to blend in. I’m still in that phase right now but I’m slowly starting to come out of it. I think it has a lot to do with being comfortable with the way you look and being confident in yourself :)

I agree, as time goes by, I accept myself more and I’m more comfortable in my own skin. =)

Yeah, I’m not there. I wear the most inappropriate clothes without too much thought to the season appropriate-ness other than, “is this warm enough” or “will I sweat in this”?

It’s because I don’t really go anywhere, or do anything other than work or do errands. Husby and I are homebodies.

I love this advice, though.
