Do you take time to explore your city?
Since my return back to the San Francisco Bay Area, I feel more like a tourist than a native, seeking local entertainment, places to eat, and exploring the nooks and crannies of nearby cities. Now that I’m older, I can actually appreciate a visit to the Napa Valley wine country.
It’s been a while since I’ve been to Napa. The first time was with my parents and we rode the Napa Valley Wine Train. I don’t remember much about the trip but I was 10 and uninterested in wine. Oh how time changes things and now, I’d love to improve my wine tasting skills and figure out what wines I like.
The summer weather is picking up and there is never a lack of visitors in Napa during this season. With sunny skies and wide open spaces, a trip over the bridge is worth the trouble for spectacular views of the vineyards.

This place reminds me of the French countryside and it makes me long for the days when I can go back. I’ve only been to Marseille and Provence so far. What I remember most was its picturesque landscape, simple and so sublime.
At the Castello di Amorosa, we took a tour of the grounds and a wine tasting session. The antiquated castle facade along with the rustic scenery made for a pleasant experience where you are almost transported to another place and time.

I learned a lot about how grapes are pressed, fermented, and eventually decanted as wine into those familiar bottles. It’s interesting to discover how mechanical the whole process has become since the days of grape stomping. I’m sure there are still several wineries that still do this manual process and I can’t help but wonder, does it improve the taste?

I was ill-equipped to be in front of the camera that day, but my sister’s outfit is kind of perfect, no?
She’s always one to have her pulse on the latest trends.

Gott’s Roadside was the final pit-stop before leaving wine country. Though it’s mostly known for its burgers and fries, I found their fried calamari to be better than the fast food staples.
I’d love to go back and check out more wineries so if you have recommendations for places to visit or wines to try, I’m willing to experiment.
On another note, I’m looking for bloggers to write a few guest posts on my blog during the month of July. Email me (stylepint.musings [at] gmail.com) if you’re interested!

I’ve always wanted to take a trip to the LA region. One year ago today, I used to say that I’d never been on a plane (with the exception of coming to America from Nigeria when I was 4 but that was so long ago!) That all changed this past December when I went back to Nigeria for the first time since I left. It was amazing. And then in May when I went to NC to see my boyfriend (that was amazing too. My first time down south!)
I really want to travel when I get older, but I want to do a lot of things. I hope I have time for it all!
You’re right. Your sister’s outfit is quite perfect! And oh, how that opportunity to guest post intrigues me yet intimidates me simultaneously!

I love traveling and I wish I had more opportunities as well. As for the guest post, you should totally join in, it’ll be more fun than intimidating! =)
Your sister’s outfit is very cute! At first (before reading the caption), I was like “Wait, that looks like her, but not quite…” and then, duh. Haha. I’m so jealous! I want to visit Napa. Hopefully someday soon!
Napa is so fun…definitely a great spot to go for vacation.
Are you back in SF for good? It is such a lovely city. I wish I had more time to explore when I visited many years ago. Instead I did the typical touristy stuff and ate at the typical big name places. Thank you for sharing these lovely pictures!
You know, I’m not sure how long I’ll be SF, but I’m here for now and I’m settling in nicely. I’ve done so many touristy things and slowly I’ll pick up what the locals do…lol. =)
I love your blog and have been following it for awhile, but had no idea you’re in SF! I just moved to San Francisco from LA last November to start a job in the city. The past 6 months have flown by, but in a good way. I fall in love with the city a bit more and more each day – I love the sunny days as much as the rainy ones! I also have a huge crush on the east bay and in particular, Berkeley. I find the food in the east bay to be amazing and much more affordable and the emphasis on community is great. With that said, I’m definitely still finding my footing in this city. It still doesn’t quite feel like home yet, but it all comes with time right?
I moved up here in late Jan, early Feb…so it’s been a while, but I haven’t really publicized it. It didn’t seem like a big jump at the time, but now that I’m no longer in LA, I do miss it. LOL.
I’m just getting to know a little bit more about the East Bay, but I agree, Berkeley is amazing. And as time passes, I’m sure I’ll get more comfortable and everything be more familiar. For now, there’s so many things on my list of things to do, I wish I could just see it all already!
That’s funny Jess……..I thought your sister was you and couldn’t believe how long your hair had grown! Lol Love seeing these pictures and the food looks soooo yummy!
Yea, the sunglasses kind of obscure our facial features, but in real life, my sis and I don’t really look that similar. LOL. =)
well, i live in SF and i try to explore here as much as i can because it is such an awesome city. but i’ve definitely gotten lazier about it the longer i’ve lived here.
i’ve only been to napa once in the 2 1/2 years that i’ve been here and i reeeeally want to go back!!!
You must know SF pretty well, I’m still exploring and finding new things to do. =)
i am guilty of not exploring my city properly too. i’d love to go wine tasting! now that i have full legal prowess muahahha
LOL. You should try it…do something new and gain new experiences.
It’s good to play tourist in the city you live sometimes and I have to learn to do more of it. I have been living in the same city for the past 6 years and have barely seen anything of what it has to offer. Napa Valley looks like a beautiful place, I’d love to visit it someday.
I just like new things…so I keep exploring and hopefully I’ll uncover some hidden gems. lol. =)
