Petite Fashion Challenge #8: Spinning the Favorite

June 16, 2011

Thanks everyone for being patient with the teaser.

I admit, I was a total procrastinator and I took photos the last minute. It was one of the windiest days I’ve yet to encounter which explains the teaser photo. Plus, I was on my way t0 SF, so I didn’t have time to edit all my photos. If you’ve been reading along, you know that I love pants and I’ve only recently started to indulge in my feminine side.

However, this particular challenge called for an update on the typical go-to outfit.

My go-to outfit is usually skinny jeans and a tee with a cardigan or an unstructured draped jacket and ballet flats. Instead of doing something completely different, I created a dressier version of my casual look. It has the same elements but with different materials and a change of silhouette.

I inverted my uniform by having pleated loose tapered pants and a stiffer, structured denim jacket. A layered tank with a belt adds definition to the waist and texture to the whole look.

The mix of dressy and casual elements can be considered my signature since I don’t have two wardrobes…the professional and casual closet are one and the same.

Not only did I take on this challenge, but this is the first of my 30 for 30 outfits. Since my 30 items do not include many of my “fall-back” options, I had to push myself to try out different combinations and see what would be most similar to my uniform, but different enough to keep it fresh. I mean, I could have worn a blouse instead of a tee or dress pants instead of jeans, but I wanted a challenge.

This is a departure since it’s not a common look for me, though I have dabbled in the whole rolled-up pants thing before. The overall outfit is a new take on my uniform and I think I’ll continue to keep these look in mind in the future.

Outfit Details: Martin + Osa jacket – XS, Anthropologie tank – XS, Theory Kissan pant – OO, Express bangle, LV crossbody bag, Payless pumps

Shop: jacket, tank, pants, pumps

Loving the different silhouette you created! The structured jacket fits so perfectly, your petite frame looks taller and even slimmer than before.

A windy day really does make for beautiful pitures. Love these, Jess, and your whole look too. I like the knotted/drapey top with the flowy pants, but topped with a stiffer jacket. Very fresh and modern.

I like that new silhouette you created and the first phrase that came to mind was “smart casual.” Your style always seems to suggest that to me.

I love the change of silhouette. It’s relaxed, carefree yet very kept(?, LOL). I like the addition of the white jacket to brighten up the look. The anthropologie tank is making my eyes go ga-ga. I want it… and I want it bad. LOL

I love that you paired to very bunchy pieces (Anthro top and Theory pants) together! You are always so creative with your wardrobe, I love it. :)
