Here’s a mini-recap of my outfits this week. I haven’t mastered the skill of taking photos everyday, so if I do document my outfit, it will count towards the 30 for 30 challenge. I’ll probably be wearing repeats but you won’t see them since I won’t be taking pictures of those looks.
It was a sweltering summer solstice and I had to wear my romper to stay cool outside. But to keep warm indoors, a light blue blazer completes the outfit. The romper has been sitting in my “tailor” pile for a while but I realized that if I shorten the bottom, I wouldn’t be able to get out of it comfortably. I’ll just tuck the midsection under the belt if I want shorter shorts.
Outfit Details: Buckley Tailors blazer (Madewell) – 0, Mike & Chris romper – XS, Payless peeptoes
On Twitter, I asked about the appropriateness of short suits and this is probably the closest I’ll get to the short suit look. The shorts are long-ish and the matte silk fabric is dressy enough not to look sloppy. In a place where the guys can wear polos and cargo shorts, I think I’m safe.
The next outfit is what I call the “old lady” look. Every time I wear it, I feel like I’ve aged 5+ years and it reminds of the outfits that my mom wears. I mean, my mom has great taste, but I’m not ready to give up my twenty-something youthfulness just yet.

If you have any ideas to make this cardigan more youthful, I’d love to hear your suggestions! I got plenty of days to remix this cardigan and I can use all the help I can get. Who really wants to look older than they actually are?

Outfit Details: Banana Republic cardigan – XS, Alice + Olivia tank – 0, Gap Curvy jeans – 24, Free People pendant, Payless peeptoes
While driving around, I discovered this awesome scenic area that overlooks the SF Bay. There weren’t that many people there, just a few joggers, dog-walkers, and cyclists…the usual crowd. Since I was in a very picturesque location, I don’t think people really paid attention to my camera, tripod, and me. I took in the view and snapped a couple of photos without interruption.

Once I was getting in the groove, I turned around to see three sculling boats headed in my direction! I thought they might steer themselves around the bend, but they docked a few feet from where I was standing and proceeded to head to shore, carrying the boats on their shoulders. I couldn’t get away, so I just passed it off like I was taking photos of the landscape. I chatted with the three seniors as they recounted their short trip around the Bay…gotta love ‘em, they have no qualms about striking up a conversation with total strangers.

Maegan recently did a post about friendship bracelets. Personally, I love the look of them because it’s a little childish, casual, and summery. The big beaded one is actually a keychain I got from college from my taiko group (Japanese drumming group) and it actually fits as a bracelet…it brings back so many memories. I would love to get leather wrap bracelets or a cool metal cuff, but I’m too cheap and picky to actually purchase those at the moment, so DIY accessories will have to do.

Outfit Details: Martin + Osa jacket – 0, Express tank – XS, J.Crew skirt – 00, U.O. belt, Talbots flats
Shop: jacket, tank, skirt, belt

the romper and blazer combo are something I never thought of!

I totally want to finish this challenge as fast as possible, but I’m going my own pace and hopefully it won’t drag on too long. lol
Loved the recaps! I really liked the blazer and romper look on you, too.
i love the first outfit! blazer and shorts/rompers (anything casual) is my favourite combo!
Love that first outfit…I have worn shorts to work before when I knew I had no appointments. I usually spend most of my work day holed up in my office so I sometimes have the luxury of dressing more “provocatively” for a work place. I am intrigued by the idea of a “shorts suit” but have yet to find one that looks flattering on me.
cute looks! your hair is look’n so chic. makes me miss having short hair.
I notice that I feel the same way about all my crew-neck cardigans (I have only 3). I’m not sure why. There’s something very stuffy about it. So I decided that if I’m going to buy more cardigans, they are going to be v-neck from now on, they just seem to be more youthful. You could try belting it and/or adding a flower pin and see how that works. Or maybe try a cami or top underneath with a little more visual interest like small ruffles. Love to see how you work it out!
V-necks are definitely easier for me to style, but I wanted to try something different. I’ll definitely try a belt and see how it goes. =)
Great outfits!! I especially love the floral top! Hmm..for the cardigan perhaps try pairing with a flirty summer dress? or anything bright and youthful:) Looks great on you though!
I’ll definitely try to pair it with the summer dresses and see what works best. =)
All really cute outfits! Also, I’m so jealous that you’re taking pictures next to the ocean. It looks lovely.
i LOVE your shorts in the first pic and your skirt in the last pic!!
great recap, jess! love that romper…it totally looks app. for work w/ that blazer. they had a really cute work app. looking shorts suit on j.crew recently, so i do think it’s doable during hot summers.
that last outfit is my fave tho, esp. with that breathtaking view! i’m really digging your friendship bracelets
Why have I never thought about taking pictures at a tennis court? Will have to try that now
I think the short suit is actually really cute and would be appropriate for casual work environments. The wide leg openings actually make them look more like a skirt.
Perhaps a cute (young? modern?) skirt to go with the cardigan?
LOL. My spot was taken by some old ladies so instead I opted for the courts…it’s semi-secluded so nobody really knew what I was doing there. =)
all of the outfits are super pretty. i think it might help to wear skinnies (yucks in summer) or just something shorter/ brighter with the cardi? idk, im not a great visualizer, lol
i’m totally coveting that romper! it’s so much more sleek & sophisticated than many others i’ve seen. love the way you added structure to it w/ a blazer.

Thanks! I picked out this romper a while ago since I wanted one that didn’t look too childish on me and this totally fit the bill.
Wow! loving all of your outfits, but mostly your hair cut.. I need to cut my hair, it’s gotten super damaged and I think I will go with your hair do. I just hope it looks good on me as it does on you. xo
Thanks! I’m actually trying to grow out my hair but I’m so finicky that I chop it all off and then I have to grow it out again. The A-line bob seems to be a flattering cut on most people so I’m sure you’ll look great in it! =)
great outfits! i am in love with the romper… so chic.
i’m always on an adventure to find nice places that overlook the bay… SF has so much to offer. i freaken love it MINUS the cold weather. haha
as for a younger look with the cardigan, i think you could pair it up with solid, bold colored sun dress & belt it with a skinny belt… finish it off with some cute sandals or flats. i think it’ll work!
good luck on your 30 for 30 challenge!!
xx,
cins
Definitely, I love SF because it’s so beautiful but I wish I knew it better. =)
Rompers are such a pain in the ass to wear. the whole striping naked to pee made me stop wearing them…lol
It’s true rompers take so much effort to put it on and off that I only wear it when I don’t need to change out of it that often. lol.
i love the first outfit!
and the second set of pic have the prettiest background!

I really like the blazer and romper look! I still cringe at the thought of a romper on me. Must lose a bit more weight first.. haha. You rocked it though!
As for the cardigan, I would probably wear it over a dress and skinny belt. Although I don’t see the outfit you have on as “older,” probably because of the white tank top and long necklace you paired it with.
ooh, love what you’re doing with your 30 so far. i especially love that dress in the first outfit…and that rocky ocean spot looks gorgeous!!

So far, you’re doing well for the remix. My favorite here is outfit number 3.

Please follow me from there. Thanks
Love the first outfit- so adorable! You are doing great in this challenge Jess!
I have the same dusty pink floral print BR cardigan, and I agree, it has a ‘matronly’ quality to it. I recently wore it with a black lace short sleeve V neck collared T from Old Navy and a greenish/olive military skirt from Ralph Lauren. I’ve worn the sweater with the skirt before, and I think the military style skirt and green color help make the sweater less feminine. The black lace also made it a tad more edgy. It is definitely hard to style.
I’ll work on remixing this particular piece…I picked it because I knew it’d be a challenge. It’s pretty and I want to keep it, so I have to find a way to wear it more often.
I love the romper-blazer combo! I’ll have to remember that for chilly summer nights! Every look was lovely, too!

sorelle in style
i want the romper!
so cute <3
you always look so lovely!
Maybe if you paired the cardigan with all white – like the white shirt and the bubble skirt, or the F21 shorts? Or with just darker colours, like your olive Anthropologie wrap, or the dark red dress? Love your stop-motion video btw, that was really cute!
Thanks so much for checking out my remix items…I’ll definitely test out these combos! =)
