Day 12: Structured Lady-Like Purses

August 1, 2011

So the shopping ban portion of the 30 for 30 didn’t go over so well.

I was itching to cross of a couple items from my wishlist but there was one item that wasn’t on the list. This little gem spun a web around me and I completely fell for its siren song.

Structured lady-like bags and briefcase-like purses are big for fall and I’ve admired Annie’s thrifted bag and Elaine’s bowling bag for a while as well as Kelly’s new Edie purse.

I’m usually drawn to bags with a bit of slouch and a relaxed look. But when I came across this beauty, it’s the perfect foil to my collection. The details set it apart from the current fall inventory and the impeccable condition of this vintage bag make it a gorgeous thrifted treasure.

When it comes to shopping, I’m getting pickier and I’m not buying as much. It’s a good thing since I’m more aware of quality, utility, and that certain something that makes an item super special. Perhaps that’s why I’m enjoying thrifting because you can get something that nobody else has…or at least, I can pretend.

Lately, I’ve been into American-based brands and stores like Ralph Lauren, Steven Alan, Brooks BrothersPendleton, WoolrichLevi’s, Eddie Bauer, and L.L.Bean. I’m totally digging the history of these heritage brands and I’m discovering a different side American fashion.

I blame it on my increasing addiction to menswear blogs…Men of HabitUnabashedly Prep and ACL. It’s so refreshing from trendy women’s fashion and the focus on quality, fit, texture, and details are what sets it apart. Taking mental notes from these blogs I’m learning how to snuff out long-lasting stylish purchases from the ephemeral stuff that’s dished out daily.

LOVE that handbag, Jess! What a great find. I’d love to get a Brooks Brothers suit one day; until then, I’m going to see if I can get one from their outlet.

Beautiful bag! I was itching for a structured handbag for a while, and I think Elaine summed up my sentiments exactly as to why in my Edie Purse post: “a petite and feminine version of a briefcase”…exactly. ;)

I’ve been really interested in those American Lifestyle brands as well. Have you looked into Rugby Ralph Lauren? I’m swooning over their women’s wear, and will have to search out a store soon.

Thank you for the links to the menswear blogs! I’m off to go check them out now. :)

I thought I was on a 3 months hopping ban, but I can’t do it.

I want an SPF50 sunscreen so badly I’m going to cave.

On the flip, since I’ll review the crap out of it in a video post, it’ll be a write off for my blog.

LOL. Thanks for the much needed kick in the pants. What was I thinking…shopping? Have I no self-control? I’m going to cry in a corner and then make myself feel better with more retail therapy. Oh wait, I’m not supposed to shop, right? =P

I love that bag!!! I really love feminine yet structured bags too. Unfortunately I don’t actually find them that practical so I’ve refrained from buying any.
