Did you know that L.L. Bean carries petite selections AND they’re expanding their Signature collection to include size 0?!
I never really heard about L.L.Bean before but with autumn quickly approaching, I stumbled upon this American heritage brand just in time. The durable fabrics, warm colors, and practical utility of these pieces make for a great addition to any closet. Thank you New In Town for this idea to mix rugged, sportswear pieces with a sleek urban polish!

Leon Leonwood Bean founded L.L.Bean in 1912 with a revolutionary hunting boot. Since then, L.L.Bean is known for its practical design and high quality goods. In March 2010, L.L.Bean Signature was launched as a modern update to its 100-year heritage. The collection features a contemporary fit with updated styling of classic items from the company’s archives.
Here are my favorites from the L.L. Bean Signature collection.

L.L.’s Golden Rule
“Sell good merchandise at a reasonable profit, treat your customers like human beings and they will always come back for more.” – Leon Leonwood Bean
While diving into the L.L. Bean website, I discovered some awesome customer service. It has everyday free shipping for all US and Canadian orders with no minimum purchase and no end date. If you want to return, you can at any time! Plus, they have a ”Reduce, Reuse, Resole” program. For a fee, they can extend the life of L.L.Bean Boots and repair many other products, including jackets, sleeping bags, and tents.
Amazing, yeah?
6. Trench CoatThis fall is all about mixing textures, pops of color, and a huge push towards menswear. So L.L. Bean is spot on and Fashionologie has more highlights from the L.L. Bean Signature collection. Check it out!

I’ve bought items from LL Bean and their quality is fabulous. Unfortunately their clothing runs large and so I don’t buy as many items as I would like. I mainly buy accessories. I did notice that they’ve added petite and size 0 to their Signature line. So fingers crossed, I’m hoping to add a few of their clothing items to my fall wardrobe.
If you try something from them I’d love to hear what you think.
I kind of figured that it would run a little big, but since I love things with a bit of extra room…it can’t hurt to try! If I get something, I’ll definitely blog about it. =)
LL Bean tends to run very large. I did notice the new petite size in my hunt for the perfect chambray shirt, but from my past experience, I’ve been too hesitant to try it. The new signature collection looks very interesting though.
Oh! Thanks for the heads up! I love that they offer free shipping! Even if the op still does not fit me, there are always cute purses or accessories to get! They even take in-store returns of online items…but no stores by me.
Same here, love the free shipping and free returns since it takes the hassle out of online shopping. I saw that they had in-store returns, but I’m not sure if the Sears nearby carries their stuff. lol
oh wow, i had no idea they stocked petite sizes!! what a great new store now for those classic american pieces!
cute & little

I think it’s cute that you had never really head of LL Bean. I guess growing up here in New England, we sort of take it for granted, since the original outlet store is in Freeport, ME ( and was the first ever 24hr anything open around these parts). When I was in school, everyone had an LL Bean backpack (with their monogram initials embroidered on), and those pack lasted forever. You’d get one for xmas in 5th grade and there was no chance of talking your parents into buying you a new one ever again since they never wore out. Their clothes do run large – my guess is even their petite line and size 0 will be too big for the 5′ and under crowd. If it does fit, however, it will last forever, so the prices are worth it.
For the West Coast, The North Face and Eddie Bauer is probably the closest equivalent to LL Bean and Land’s End. It seems like everyone owned something from there growing up. I guess it’s the whole East Coast/West Coast thing.
It’s so funny you haven’t heard of LL Bean before! it’s based in Maine so I guess it’s more of a New England thing, but growing up in Connecticut (where I’m from) EVERY child had an LL Bean back pack. I haven’t bought from there in years because their clothing runs very large (as other comments have said). If you buy anything I’d love to see a review to see what their sizing is like now-a-days.
Growing up on the West Coast, we had different brands that we lived and breathed in. It probably explains all the different styles and fashions we have…each part of the nation has their own aesthetic and heritage brands. =)
lol, guess it’s probably because you’re Californian that you haven’t heard of l.l. bean much! I was introduced to the line when I lived in the Midwest, where their parkas, coats, and winter items were popular for the snowy winter weathers. It seems liked everyone had an LL bean fleece jacket or coat during my high school and college days. I don’t think I’ve ever bought stuff from them though, but I kept getting their catalogs in the mail for some reason….I think it’s because my sister bought a few items from them. But loving this new “signature” line they are rolling out…I ‘m assuming they are competing with the other major catalog seller Land’s End and their Land’s End Canvas line.
Very true! We have our versions of LL Bean and Land’s End but I think it also reflects the different outdoor culture in the West. Less hunting and more…hiking? =)
