Waiting for My Rocket to Come

August 12, 2011

Did I ever tell you that I wanted to be a hip hop dancer?

But the moves never came easily and I stumbled all over the dance floor like a drunken sailor. After a valiant attempt, I hung my hat and let the masters take over. You got to play to your strengths right?

What I learned from the best dancers is that if you don’t have swagger or confidence, you fake it. Over time, it becomes second nature as your mind and body grows into it. For me, I’m rapidly discovering that I’m no longer the new kid on the block. Instead of following the crowd, you have to be the trailblazer.

Tune in on Monday for a special blogging event hosted by Fabienne of The House in the Clouds!

That’s awesome, Jess – never knew you were a hip hop dancer!

Heh, one of my oft-repeated lines to myself used to be “Fake it ’til you make it.”
