We are the Legion

October 7, 2011

It’s Friday and though the weekend is on its way, I feel like I’m heading into overdrive. Where does time go?

I recently checked into my charging station for some inspiration at the Legion of Honor, a museum perched at Land’s End with a beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge and luscious golf greens. There, I immersed myself in a world filled with delicate sculptures, masterful paintings, and classical architecture that reinvigorated my appreciation for art, beauty, and creativity.

When I was young, my parents fostered my creative sensibilities and allowed me to take art classes. I learned to draw, paint, and sculpt at a fairly young age and that hunger for creativity never really left me.

I remember my parents would drop me off at an art museum so I could explore and get my fill before picking me up a few hours later. Those precious moments spent wandering the halls and staring at timeless works by the masters always left me awe. Sometimes I would just stare at a painting for several minutes, baffled by their perspective, haunted by the emotion, and moved by the vulnerable authenticity. Art is like opening your soul to the world…sharing what you see and transforming it into a form to connect with others.

We are the legion of people who take our experiences from art and share it with the world. It’s a great reminder that art isn’t solely contained in a museum but it’s expressed everyday through our interpersonal relationships. Art is everywhere.

In a previous post, I mentioned that I killed my flats during a coastal hike and it was all in search of the Land’s End labyrinth.

What was supposed to be a half mile walk that would take 10 minutes max ended up as an hour-long hike. We took every wrong turn imaginable and at one point, we were right there but we somehow missed it. I was disheartened as we wandered up and down stairs and retraced our steps several times over. Then as we on our last attempt, I looked out at the ocean, wondering where it could be and as I turned left, there it was staring at me!

It was right where we stood 15 minutes ago, just around the bend, behind this cliff that we didn’t want to walk down. The labyrinth was simply constructed but its significance wasn’t lost as we saw a woman walk through it in a meditative state. They say that labyrinths are used to quiet the mind and reach spiritual enlightenment. I’m not wholly convinced about the enlightenment part, but I do know that it definitely puts you in a contemplative mood.

I know it’s been a while since I’ve shown my face but I haven’t had any good photo days. With a seasonal skin crisis, tired eyes, and lazy style choices…I’m kind of embarrassed. What’s a style blog without outfit posts?

I’ll work on it. =)

Hello!!! I’ve been meaning to comment, but I’ve been too lazy! Just wanted to mention I’ve enjoyed reading all the posts, in particular, the Bad Mudders one! Love that pop of pink on you and lol re: museums. You know how I feel about museums…I still owe the Chort Face a visit to the Getty, though.

Ooh, do you still draw/paint/sculpt? may we see any of your artwork on your blog? Of course all your outfits are an artwork in itself :) I love the cardigan….the print quite matches your surroundings too!
