Guest Post: Kick Fall Into Gear

October 12, 2011

As much as I love summer, I get sick of wearing sandals everyday. Deep down inside, I want to throw on a pair of boots or moccasins with some fun socks and not have to worry about pedicures every week.

Fall shoe styles are unmatched in their diversity. You can get away with sandals, boots, moccasins, wedges, boat shoes and everything in between. In fall, just about anything flies. I’m excited to take advantage of fall’s diverse footwear, look trendy and not spend hundreds on designer brands. If you dig where I’m coming from, check out my suggestions for the best footwear this autumn.

Boots: Classic Fall Wear

Boots are the perfect way to top off your favorite fall look. Whether it’s a floral dress with tights or dark wash skinny jeans with a big chunky scarf and a leather bomber, Footwear etc has awesome designer boots for an affordable price. An amazing pair of calf-high boots is always one of my first autumn purchases. To switch it up, try ankle boots.

brogues oxfords

Oxfords and Penny Loafers: Workplace Chic

I’m super happy to see the return of oxford shoes and penny loafers. Both are an interesting blend of masculine and feminine elements that look chic and professional. Oxfords put a feminine touch on a stereotypically masculine style while penny loafers are professional, mature, powerful and stylish all at once. I have an old pair of my mom’s penny loafers that make people go wild.

boat shoes

Boat Shoes and Moccasins: Everything in Between

If you’re just heading out for lunch, shopping or anticipate a busy day with a lot of walking or activity, moccasins and boat shoes are my go-to choice. I bought a pair of
boat shoes
years ago, and they’re still holding up and going strong–definitely worth the investment.

Since most moccasins are made of traditional leather, I usually go for suede loafer style moccasins for a casual, laid-back look. They’re my favorite choice for a typical, low-key fall day and are best in mild weather. I avoid wearing suede  in the snow or heavy rain so they’ll last longer; I’ve had the same pair for three years.

wedges

Wedges and Flats: Out on the Town

When I’m out getting a few drinks, I love wearing wedges. They’re comfortable enough to navigate Chicago and super stylish. A basic pair of black or dark brown wedges can go with just about anything and can be worn throughout winter when paired with thicker tights.

If I’m anticipating a longer night, I keep a cute, stylish pair of flats on hand.

Stock Up!

Spend this autumn building your fall collection. Most fall styles, colors and trends don’t change often, so if you buy more traditional looks, you can wear them for years. Grab your moccasins and get out there!

Autumn awaits.

Hooray for Fall and Fall shoes! I am also tired of sandals and flip-flops and can’t wait to bring out those boots. These oxford flats look awesome. I have been seeing them everywhere but have not purchased any yet. I think I need to go shoe shopping today! Thanks for the post!
