A Treehugger

October 13, 2011

I admit it, I’m treehugger…though I’ve never hugged a tree.

After hearing so much about Muir Woods, I finally went to visit. We took a 5 mile hike from Stinson Beach to Muir Woods (and another 5 back) and the views were breathtaking. From the jungle-like atmosphere to the well-maintained trails, it felt like I stepped into a different world.

In this enchanted forest, the wood nymphs no longer reside in the realm of fantasy. A brisk walk into the redwood groves took us back in time for our own Jurassic Park movie with giant ferns and overgrown plants towering over us. Or if we were quiet enough, we might catch a glimpse of the primates from Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Either way, this place has some magic hold over me…or maybe all the greenery and clean air was getting to my head.

Have you taken any hikes or visited any national parks in your area?

Jess, I LOVE This place and your “coverage” of it! I have never been there, but I love the photographs you took, and the fact that you’re not the average fashionista who only writes about food, city and fashion. I like that you do things actively outdoors. This place looks like a dream for trail running! Get those New Balance trail shoes and get runnin’! I can’t wait to have my running trails in Oahu! Pretty soon I’ll be surrounded by them!!

So great. Love these photos… More, please!

PS. I’m a treehugger, too. It’s important to be as Eco-conscious and connected to our planet as possible. It’s not going to be around long in the state that it is if we continue to treat it like shit. Love you for that.

Some of my favorite memories from my honeymoon are from Muir Woods, Stinson Beach, and the cliffs and mountains in the surrounding area. It was frigid and windy and so very, very beautiful. Almost foreign to two Texans who’ve only seen sweltering Junes.
