Eggplants and Trenches

October 21, 2011

Ever since I started my closet re-vamp, it feels like I’m starting from the ground up with classic staples.

I’ve been coveting a trench coat for the longest time but a Burberry one is currently out of my reach. So I focused my attention on more attainable purchases.

I came across this Kenneth Cole trench on eBay for under $100. It’s a hybrid between a classic trench and a Mackintosh (coat).

However, it was way too long with the length ending around mid-calf. I took this jacket to my favorite outerwear tailor and hemmed it a few inches above the knee. The new length matches my frame better and it’s more proportional to my body.

Aside from classic staples, I needed pants in a warmer fabric. I picked up these cord leggings because of the vibrant color…but I’m not completely sold on the idea of colored pants. I think they look decent but I’m too used to wearing black and blue bottoms.

This is another push out of my comfort zone, do you think it’s worth it?

You look so classy and lady like. Good move on having it shortened, you’re so petite!

I like the coat! I, too, however, am not sold on colored bottoms (beyond blue denim, black, and gray). Your outfit is really cute, though, and I love corduroys :D

Wow I love that trench on you! I do love the colour of those pants but like you I’m not really sold on coloured bottoms. These ones seem easier to pull off though since they are pretty dark still.

Love your outfit! The pants are prefect on you – versatile enough to dress up in the evenings too – gorgeous colour on you.

I really like the trench. I’ve been searching forever for a classic double breasted trench but I find that the style just overwhelms my frame, so I like the non-traditional style of yours. Very flattering!
