Classic with an Edge

October 28, 2011

When it comes to pencil skirts, it seems like it’d be one of the easiest pieces to wear.

I find it a challenge since they are usually shapeless while A-line or flared skirts are more flattering for my frame. Somehow, half of my skirt collection consists of pencil skirts so instead of getting rid of them, I’m going to wear them more this year.

A cardigan or a blazer would be the logical choice of outerwear for this outfit, but I find it too predictable. After trying on several jackets, this bomber seemed to be the right topper for a tough and feminine look.

Adding a studded belt provides some definition at the waist. I wore peeptoe pumps, but I think a black leather ankle boot would be better. Better luck next time.

I love the color of the skirt and how you paired it with the beige top and black jacket – you are right this is an unpredictable pairing but turned out great. You look very chic and relaxed. Ready to take on the weekend ;) Have a great one sweetie.

I actually prefer pencil skirts, but if they aren’t the right shape they can appear shapeless on the body. I like them more tapered inwards towards the knees. Not many pencil skirts off the rack do that anymore for whatever reason, they are more “straight” skirts than pencil skirts. Love the color of the one you are wearing though.

I hate pencil skirts.

If they aren’t a little bit tight, they are so shapeless for small girls like us, they overwhelm and kind of make us look like we don’t have hips. I prefer a slight bodycon over a traditional thick fabric pencil skirt… Or even a tulip versus a straight up pencil, just because the shape effect is there.

You’ve been rocking the chic with an edge look lately. Love that.

I love your blouse! Would you say it’s petite-friendly w/o alterations?

It fits perfectly without alterations, although what’s originally quarter length is actually bracelet length for me. Works better for me too!

Are these Valentino pumps new?! They were the first thing I noticed and I still can’t stop staring :)

Lol. They aren’t new, but I don’t wear them much because they’re satin and they have a higher arch than I’m used to…too delicate for the everyday!

I love the peeptoe pumps!! it adds more feminine to the tough and feminine look!!! The blouse is nice too, you managed to wear it in a way so it didn’t make you look washed out!

Love your blog. and this jacket. I am 5’1″ and do not blog but I have learned so much by following you and other petite fashionistas, especially the petite fashion challenges. I have a suggestion: Outerwear can be particularly challenging for petites. Why not a PFC called OUTERWEAR CHIC.. This would be helpful with the cold winter months approaching…The look could be dressy or casual and must include an outerwear garment appropriate for being outdoors in inclement weather.

Thanks for stopping by! I would definitely do a PFC on outerwear. I love jackets! =)
