We Are Real: Mrs. Jarette

November 14, 2011

Welcome to the first of the “We Are Real” series, focusing on petite diversity.

You asked to see more petites not just the modelesque skinny minnies and I’ve rounded up some wonderful ladies…bloggers and non-bloggers. The world is too big for such a narrow view of petites. We come in all shapes and sizes, ages and ethnicities…each with a different perspective on fashion. And that’s exactly what I want to showcase, so read on about the first woman for this feature, Mrs. Jarette.

Name/Blog: Jarette of  Mrs. Jarette

Height: 5 foot 2 inches

Describe yourself and your personal style:

I’m a very silly person, I try not to take life so seriously, I don’t worry about the things I can’t control and I try to stay positive 98% percent of the time because usually everything will work itself out.  My style depends on how I feel. I like to wear anything that makes me feel comfortable.

I like wedges and small heels because they are comfortable, I’m 5’2″ so it gives me the height I need without wearing shoes that hurt my feet. I don’t believe in walking around with my feet hurting just to be stylish, so I always try to put together an outfit that will look great but I feel comfortable all around.  One day you could see me wear a vintage dress and then the next day I want to wear my favorite skinny jeans with a blazer… so I don’t want to box myself into one particular style, BUT if I had to make my own category I would call it “glam-eclectic big” lol! Because I love makeup, I love big bags, big accessories, big hair… etc.

Biggest fashion/clothing misconception about women like you:

Hmmm… Well, people feel that when you’re petite you should stay away from long dresses and high waist pants but it’s all how you put it together; if you wear a shoe with a heel you can pull anything off, it changes the whole effect of the outfit… I learned that from Tyra.

Best fashion/style advice for women like you:

Wear what makes you feel good about yourself. Whatever you wear, wear it with confidence, dress for you and not anybody else.

Favorite stores:

Dejaneiro is one of my favorite stores in the city (NYC) since they sell various store brands for super cheap. Forever 21, H&M, Old Navy, Urban Outfitters, Gap, New York and Company, Banana Republic, and I love Target too.

Recommendations of Petite and/or Plus Size stores/brands:

I would recommend the same stores because all these stores have plus size selections as well, if you can’t find something in the store you can find it online.

They are totally fierce! Proof that you don’t have to be super skinny to rock colored pants! =)
