Stay Puff Perfect

November 17, 2011

I’ve been watching way too many Old Navy commercials.

Are puffers really that cute? I rummaged through my sister’s pile of A&F, Hollister, and F21 puffers and experimented with this not-so-puffy vest.

Lumberjacking without the hefty axe…this outfit is warm, comfy, and casual for brisk fall day.

Mixing textures is the name of the game with this waffle cardigan, nylon vest, and denim pant. Almost everything is cut close to the body so only the puffer adds volume to the top of the body. These jeans with the zippered opening at the ankle elongate the legs by extending the line down to the boot.

Outfit Details: F21 vest – S, F21 waffle sweater – S, F21 tunic – S, Ksubi zipper jeans – 24, thrifted boots

Shop: vest, sweater, tunicjeans, boots

Taking a page out of the men’s style book, this outfit has a lot of traditional “manly” elements. It really depends on the cut and style of each item so that when it’s all paired together, it’s anything but.

What’s your take on puffers and how do you wear them?

Hahaha I know which ON commercials you’re talking about. Their songs are always stuck in my head ;) The puffers are super cute on you! I like how they’re not too inflated because I feel like a marshmallow when that happens.

First off, you look fabulous! Love the layering and fit.
Second, I was just talking about this the other day with a friend! My opinion is that super puffy jackets are so unflattering! The one you are wearing here works great..both because it is only slightly puffed and you are super thin. But I’ve seen jackets that seem so big that it only serves to add extra lbs to the top half of a gal’s body! No good! :-)

I despise puffer jackets. I think it’s because I was born in the 1970s and in the early 80s, they were all the rage (especially vests, or jackets with removable sleeves that turned into vests). My sister and I both had ones with a ridiculous chevron stripe thing going across the entire front.

I just can’t go there. If I need a warm coat, I wear my wool peacoat. If I need something that is more weather proof, I wear my soft shell from REI with a fleece vest underneath. I find puffers generally unflattering – they are not specifically designed for athletic wear, so they don’t fit into the “practical/functional” category of jackets, and they are not nice tailored wool coats, so they don’t look classic, elegant, or stylish.

I love puffy vests! I am actually preparing a post with fitting room pics with one from J. Crew!

You styled this so nicely! It really does look so cozy! :)
