It’s been a few weeks since I reviewed Eddie Bauer snow options.
With the weather just right for first weekend runs to Tahoe, my search for snow gear is speeding up. Sure, I have clothes I can wear but I want something better to replace my current set. The first thing to check off on my list is finding petite snow pants.
I used to purchase kid’s sized pants in Medium, but I find that the cut isn’t very flattering and the waist always has a huge gap. So I’m only looking for women’s pants this time around. When it comes to snow pants, I like them simple, slim, and insulated. By keeping the bottoms fitted, I can wear several top layers and not feel overwhelmed.
Most regular sized snow pants have an inseam of 32″. Petite or short versions can have an inseam of 30″ or 28″ if you’re lucky. But the tricky part is finding one that’s slim since they are typically made to wear over base layers and thermals. Burton is one of the few that carry the style I’m looking for and I’m hoping the Burton Skinny Mini pant will meet my expectations. It’s not a petite pant but the slimness should make the purchase worthwhile…besides a little hemming isn’t so bad if everything else looks just right.

Will all of these pants have pant legs wide enough to fit over snowboard (vs ski) boots?
Yes, all the pants have a wider pant opening (or expandable zip) at the bottom to fit over ski and snowboard boots. It’s just the width of the overall pant that runs slightly slimmer.
I am interested in knowing what you find! I have been an avid skier since age 2, and I never really have had snow pants that fit well. My current ones are on the big side, but my brother (he’s a freeride skier who does jumps and rails) says that they are good, but on the small side (ha!).
My present pants are Burton and I like them a lot. My legs get cold easily, so I wanted to make sure I could fit a pair of leggings, a knee brace, and fleece pants underneath. I may be trying some new ski clothes on this weekend. If I try any on your list, I’ll let you know how they fit!
Where do you like to ski?
Cheers,
Hello, Framboise!
I usually ski in Lake Tahoe. But someday I hope to check out the slopes in Colorado. =)
I was inspired to do a budget snowboard gear for petite ladies from your posts
I actually got the Bugaboo Snow pants in Girls actually and it fits really well and it was only 30$!
Of course its not as nice as the burton’s you posted (those are gorgeous) but it’ll do for a first-timer like me!
Thanks Tina! It’s great that you found a pair of snow pants that work for you! =)
When I look for snowboard pants I try to find styles that have “leg lift” straps and reinforced hems because I often have the problem with my pant legs dragging when I’m not in boots (and on bathroom floors? blegh!).
