Review: J.Crew Cable V-neck Sweater

December 13, 2011

What do you think? Is this sweater a keeper?

I picked up the J.Crew sweater in forest green soon after writing this post. The cable pattern, the soft material, and the deep saturated color beckoned me in.

Outfit Details: J.Crew v-neck sweater - XXS, Fearne sandals (c/o Very.com), DIY silk bubble skirt, Madewell belt, Colehaan satchel

I find v-neck sweaters to be quite flattering since I have a short neck. The neckline frames my face better and gives it a stronger presence. So when I found this sweater in XXS, I had to try it out.

The overall fit is quite slim and it makes me feel long and lean. Looking at the photos, it’s still a little baggy in the midsection but if I were to layer a shirt underneath, it’d be just right. From the shoulder width to the length of the sleeves, it’s quite proportional to my body. Though it’s not a petite-specific item, it’s petite-friendly if you like your sweaters with a longer length.

I’m glad J.Crew is expanding their XXS and 00 sizes so I can actually find items that fit. The days of feeling left out of J.Crew are gone. With the year quickly to a close, I’m no longer looking for sweaters…but there is room for one more before I implement the “one in, one out” rule.

Have you tried J.Crew sweaters?

At first I thought it was too baggy in the mid-section too but I think maybe once you layer- it will be good. Glad to see how it fits! Love J.Crew sweaters…have a million cardi’s from last season :)

Great review:)

don’t love don’t hate it, aesthetically, but you should judge based on comfort.

I like how it casually drapes on you. I’ll definitely to try this when they have a better sale. I’m also considering their cable cardigan with buttons all the way down the front for a more versatile look.

I’m with Aubs. I don’t hate it, I don’t love it either. I love the color and the fit is OK, but the one thing that I’m most concerned about is that it’s made up of viscose, which means it is prone to pilling. Viscose is very breathable, though not very warm. You have to measure the pros and cons. I’m not sure I’d be willing to trade quality and warmth for color alone.

You are absolutely right Cher! For me, I would LOVE a super warm sweater and in a great color too, but this will do as a layering piece and I’ll search for warm one at a later date. Sometimes compromises must be made.
