Review: Allison Izu Denim

March 10, 2011

If you’re a regular reader of petite blogs, you might have come across Allison Izu premium petite jeans.

Allison Izu denim is aimed for women 5’6″ and below with sizes running from 000 to 10 with inseams of 27″ and 31″. I was able to review a few pairs of denim from Allison Izu to share with you all. For reference, I’m 5’1″.

Allison Izu Chinatown Jean

Lately, I’ve been on the lookout for non-skinny jeans so the first pair I tried from Allison Izu is the Chinatown trouser jean in size 00 with a 31″ inseam. The length matches well with my 3 inch heels and the silhouette elongates the leg line giving the illusion of added height.

Allison Izu Chinatown Jean

It’s a mid-rise jean made with a thick denim material. The knee break occurs at the knee (amazingly!) and it looks pretty good from the front. To be nitpicky, if the space at the knee was a bit slimmer, it would look even better.

In size 00, the jeans  fit well everywhere except the waist where I have a one to two inch gap. If I sized down, it would be too tight around my thighs. However, this style is perfect for those whose waist and hip measurements are closer together.

The Chinatown style also features a center seam down the entire length of the pant as well as horizontal pockets to prevent puckering at the hips. These subtle details enhance the silhouette of the jean and help retain its shape.

Allison Izu Luana Lu Jean

The next style was the Luana Lu in 000 with a 27″ inseam. It is a high-rise wide leg pant made with a denim linen type of material. It is clearly too short for my height even when paired with flats.

There is no waist gap with this style and the material is very soft and comfortable. I’m not sure if this style is flattering for my body type since I think the rise is too high.

Allison Izu Luana Lu Jean

Luana Lu would work best for those with a longer torso and a curvy body type to balance the proportions between the upper and lower body. It looks more casual than the Chinatown trouser.

Allison Izu Panio Jean

The Panio bootcut jean in 000 with a 31″ inseam is perfect for curvy bodies. This style runs smaller than average which explains the bunching. I would need to size up to a 00 for a better fit and less wrinkling.

I love the seamed detail in the back, it makes the bum look extra curvaceous…not that I want you to stare at my backside. Though the oversized logo on the pocket is a unique design, I would prefer it to be smaller and less noticeable.

Allison Izu Panio Bootcut Jean

This low rise style is better suited to my body’s proportions with the slimmest look possible when compared to the other two denim styles. It has a very subtle flare that balances the curves of my body. The Panio is definitely my favorite pant from Allison Izu.

You had me at the word: petite. I am small and I hate hemming. They look super cute on you. :)

I’d love to see 29″ inseams with Allison’s line. Like you, 27″ is too short for me, even with flats, and I can’t always carry off 31″ without heels.

my fave pair is the Chinatown style. i’m loving the wide-legged pants style. i agree that if the pants were a little bit slimmer in the knee area it would be more flattering. thanks for the excellent review of these pants!

I like the last jean on you but I have to agree that sizing just one size up might make a difference. There seems to be a slight issue with some waist gapping but doesn’t look too severe with the exception of the first pair of jeans. Really nice that you got to review them, love seeing the same pair of things on different people!

The Chinatown style is my favourite too. Jeans shopping is seriously my least favourite activity because of so many fit issues, so thanks for introducing me to this site!

@Simple Subtle Style: I love the length that the Chinatown gives, I just wish the waist fit better.

@Mandy: I dislike hemming too but I find it a necessary evil. LOL. =)

@PetiteLittleGirl: Thanks for your opinion and the Chinatown style is so flattering.

@Cynthia C: I agree, the more inseam sizes, the more versatile the pants can be. =)

@Kileen: I love wide legged pants too.

@Banhannas: I agree, if I had the right sizes and inseams for all these styles, I think it would look even better. They’re all made so well and I think they’re really flattering on a lot of different body types.

@Leena: The Panio is more of the “sexy” jean and it’s a pair I need.

@RK: Jean shopping can be a hassle but once you understand your body type, it can be easier to find a better fit. I always have to find the “curvy” fit styles because waist gaps are always my issue with pants.

@Lei: Thanks! I hope it was helpful! =)

Wow, they fit you absolutely perfectly! The break, the butt (hello there, butt!), everything. Nothing’s puckering or loose. This is amazing.

WHAT is that nail polish you are wearing? It’s fantastic!

Thanks for the compliment! Seriously, everything is perfectly proportioned for petites which makes it so refreshing! The nail polish is Sephora by OPI in the color “Break a Leg-Warmer!” =)

Great review! I’ll be sure to check out Allison Izu when I need some new jeans. FYI for anyone currently jeans-shopping: her website is having a sale on a lot of styles. Prices range from $49.99 to $69.99.

I’m really loving the first pair – the trouser jeans. I looked into trying a pair but for me the cost of shipping to Canada was just too much and I think it’s still too risky for me!

Great review! I love all the pictures and the detailed shots!

The Chinatown Trouser looked the best on you overall! And because they’re not skinny jeans, you can definitely wear heels with them without people noticing that you’re wearing heels. I agree about the knees, but it’s very minor.

Great review, Jess! :]
