I don’t have traditional Thanksgivings. For several years, I spent it on the slopes when my parents were avid skiers.
This year, I’m starting to look for new snowboard pants and jacket because I don’t want to look like a little kid anymore. Most of my friends stay true to The North Face or Burton for their gear. Alli of Ski Petite has some great recommendations for ski gear and pants too.
Two years ago, I did a petite guide to snowboard gear. It was really general and petite sizes were pretty much non-existent. But a lot has changed and I recently discovered that Eddie Bauer has a petite department. I scoured the site and found a petite snow outfit to try in XSP.

At first glance, the outfit fits ok and for less than $200, it’s practically a steal!
The 365 Nisqually pant is more of a rain pant than a snowboarding one since it’s unlined and it doesn’t have any insulation. The widest setting for the wait was 28″ and I had to pull the built-in zipper to its smallest setting to fit my waist. With an inseam of 30″, the length was about right and the proportions are perfect for petites. If I were to keep this, I’d definitely have to wear thermals underneath to stay warm.

The 3-in-1 Snowfoil jacket has two layers, an outer rain jacket and an inner fleece.
It seems like this style should be fitted but it’s quite loose on me, almost a size or two too big. The sleeves are a few inches too long the body is too roomy, but the length is just right. Eddie Bauer has the right petite proportions but if they could slim this jacket down a couple of inches, they’d have a winner.

The fleece attaches to the outer jacket in the sleeves and collar. There are a lot of pockets in this jacket which comes in handy if you like to be a packrat and bring snacks or warmers with you. Without the outer jacket, you can see how loose this fleece hangs on me. It looks shapeless and boxy despite the curved seaming.

Overall, this is very petite-friendly though I think the sizes run large. Although I really love the style, I returned both items so I can find something that runs slimmer.
Have you tried Eddie Bauer and where do you shop for snow gear?

I’m an avid skiier also (Vermont – Okemo). My skiing outfit has bothered me for years because of how baggy everything is. I am your size and I just feel like I look like a whale in my ski outfits! Some day I hope to be able to afford those legging-esque ski pants that you might see some women wearing, but the ones that are actually insulated cost about 900 dollars that I’ve seen (check these out: http://www.gorsuch.com/product/ski+wear/w.+ski+pants/stretch/sandi+ski+pant.do?green=865797164) I’d also consider buying a jacket that had some sort of belt around the waist to cinch it in and make me look slimmer and more put together.
It’s great that Eddie Bauer is selling petite pants with shorter inseams, but you are right– the overall fit is just not slim enough, on both the pants and jacket. I think you can do better, and look forward to you posting whatever you end up keeping!
I’ve considered those ski leggings too but I never found any that fit but if I do, I’ll write about it! =)
I’ve never considered Eddie Bauer…didn’t even know they had snowboard gear!! For now I only have snowpants…from Columbia…bought kids size. I want to get North Face jacket, but whenever I look at them..they’re so expensive, can’t justify the cost!! And at less than $200, definitely in my budget range!!
Thanks for sharing!
They have a lot of outdoors gear and it’s not all snowboard specific but it definitely works for snow. =)
I’m glad you found Eddie Bauer, since I find their snow attire the smallest on the market based on all the other cold outerwear brands out there. I recently bought a fleece jacket XSP from an Eddie Bauer outlet….and it’s almost too tight…especially if I layer a sweater underneath. I have a couple winter tops and jackets from Eddie Bauer but have never tried their pants (for snow pants, I always just shop boys section at Target). But I do love Eddie Bauer for their quality/affordabilty and adult winter gear that fits a bit better (although not perfect…like your jacket above) than other winter brands….
Eddie Bauer is definitely affordable compared to other brands and they have great outdoors gear. I’m hoping there are slimmer brands out there for snowboarding…there has to be! =P
Have you tried REI? They carry a bunch of different brands. Several years ago I bought a similar 3 in 1 jacket in XS in Colombia from there. The inside jacket fit well, but the shell is a bit baggy.
A little late on commenting, but I’m trying to get into snowboarding/skiing this year and I have found that Special Blend jackets fit very slim and I bought Bonfire Heavenly Pants which are slim fitting and the pants aren’t too long. (I’m about 5’0, about 90 pounds).
Thanks Monica for the tip!
