Lookbook: A Red Suede Skirt

January 13, 2012

One of easiest items to thrift are pencil skirts. Classic and always in style, there’s never a shortage to be found.

For me, pencil skirts should make a statement when everything else is simple and neutral. It can be a pop of color, a fun print, or a interesting texture. This thrifted skirt in genuine suede comes in a bright, bold shade of red. I was amazed how well it fit and the overall length. The previous owner must have been my size…such good luck!

Outfit Details: Madewell jacket, Land’s End Canvas tank, thrifted skirt, Colehaan satchel, Qupid ankle boots

Shop: jacket, tank, skirt, boots

Despite owning several pencil skirts, I’m not great at putting together outfits with them, especially ones with a more casual tone like this one or this one. Third time’s the charm, right? I think this version is more “me.”

I’m off to LA this weekend to go shopping…I mean, to get some grub…and by grub, I mean catching up with friends. ;)

How are you spending the weekend?

Love the rich color of the skirt. I’m thinking about buying a red pencil skirt too – I love this shape, it’s so feminine and pretty, and the color only adds more chic to it)
I also think that I’d love to pair it with stripes too, love the stripes with red – skirts, belts, bags etc.

I found a red suede skirt at my local thrift shop (in Toronto) too! It needed a bit of DIY slimming, but it’s good now. I do still need to get it cleaned though and so I’m procrastinating because I know it’s not going to be cheap.

Wow, first time seeing you wearing some color, besides the usual boring black or grey! You should wear more brights, less boring!

Thanks Shin! In the winter, I tend to dress in darker colors, but when the weather warms up, the colors do come out and play! I’ll try to add more color into my wintry outfits. =)
